Newer grips for older guns? (revolvers)
Greetings all!
I have won a 1909 Colt New Service revolver in .45 LC. It was nickel plated + other modifications, so the collector value is ruined. Fortunately, i picked it up for $200.00 and i plan to Cryo treat it + NP-3 to get it thru another 100 years. It has pearl grips and combined with that flaking nickel and nearly 6" barrel it's a "pimp daddy special". I like it that way and it's cool in a 1970s sort of way, but i wish to put it to work, since the mechanical condition is excellent. My 2 questions are: 1-What letter size frame is this? I know nothing of Colt's frame sizes. 2-Are there any modern rubber grips that will fit this revolver? ( i.e. Pachmayr,Hogue, etc.) |

I believe that this is an E-frame, like the Oficial Police.
I have a set of Pachmayrs that I will sell you. Drop me a line |

[Edited to correct an error.] The Model 1909 was a military version of the Colt New Service (as was the Model 1917) and IIRC NS grips will fit, as will any modern grip made for the NS or Model 1917.
Original wood or hard rubber grips from another gun may not fit perfectly, since Colt (and S&W) did a preliminary fitting of the grips and polished grip straps and grips down together before removing the grips and sending the frame to be blued. So it is rare to get the really perfect fit the originals had. Jim Last edited by James K; March 2, 2006 at 11:05 PM. |
