Looking to add a Beretta 96 to the collection. Centurion, 96FS, 96A1, Something else?

Assuming cost was not drastically different, what's everyone's preference on Beretta 96 models and why?

96D Centurion. Carried one for a couple years in the mid 90’s really enjoyed it (though I eventually replaced it with a 8040 D Cougar). Was a great shooter and I like the Beretta DAO trigger system, as every “D” model from them that I’ve owned has always had a consistently smooth 9-pound pull from the factory.

I have an INOX 96. Bought it as a mate to my INOX 92 about 10 years ago. It has been nothing but a pleasure to own, highly recommended.

Both being heavy guns, how's the recoil on a .40?

The frames are aluminum, 40 is a little snappy but not unexpected.

Should’ve made it in 10mm AUTO. You get much better performance across all bullet-weights.

That’s why the 10mm’s still around in spades, ….. whereas the .40S&W is pretty much a ‘dead round’ since the FBI dropped it for the 9mm.

It would take a major redesign along with a noticeable size increase including a larger grip.
40S&W will cover 90% of what the 10mm can do and there is absolutely no shortage of good quality, affordable ammo available.

I've only owned two 9mms (both long gone) but the 92G Centurion was a superb pistol in every way.

Tough choice, all the Beretta 96 models have their fans for sure. Personally, I’d lean towards the 96A1 for its modern updates, like the picatinny rail and the improved mag capacity.
