The ten

Am I the only person that remembers the 10 mm fondly?
I know there were wear and tear problems on some of the weapons, but the same can be said for the .357 and .44.
I have fired many a .40 and I have yet to handle one that has the same level of accuracy as the older 10mm.
It seemed to have more oomph too, for roughly the same amount of recoil.
Am I the only person out here wishing that the 10 mm would make a comeback?
I think them big ole' oversized H&K's would make a heap of a lot more sense in 10mm than .45 acp.
Plus it would be nice to see a double stack double action ten in standard DA auto type configuration.....ALL STEEL!

I've become intrigued by the 10mm Auto and am looking into the Glock 20 to satisfy my peaking curiosity. It does seem like a cartridge that deserves to be more popular than it actually is.

The Ten is IN

Comeback? Yeah, it never left - I've had a 10 in one form or another purty much since I became a gun nut proper, round about '97 - eight years now. It's a good round, and yes, I don't know why people make such a fuss about its recoil - I can't tell any practical difference from .45 +P, or a hot .40.

Ive wanted a 10 since I started shooting, probably the only reason i didnt buy one is that there is not much literature on whats good and whats not, and no one but glock still makes the ten. I will someday own one, but money is hard to come by.

Ed Brown makes a 1911 pattern 10mm. I believe it is called the Razorback. Kimber also lists a 10mm Auto in the 1911 configuration. EAA makes a 10mm Witness. I think you can find S&W autos chambered for the 10mm and if I remember correctly they even make a revolver chambered for the cartridge. And I think I remember hearing a rumor of CZ coming out with a 10mm. This is in addition to the Glock 20 and 29. Ammo is obscure but can be found from Federal, Winchester, and Hornady. Full power loads are available from Double Tap, Pro Load, and others. From what I can see, when you can actually find ammo, it is about the same price as .45 ACP. If you check out the link above to the 10mm board at Glocktalk you can learn alot in a hurry.

Jack Malloy,

You may have left for a while, but the ten was always right here waiting for you.

In the past, I've had a Glock 29 and a Ruger Vaquero in the caliber, and I still have a Smith & Wesson 610 and a Colt Delta Elite. I really like the round, and thankfully so do enough other people to keep the caliber breathing.

I greatly enjoy high-quality, very durable, unfailingly reliable, and extremely accurate S&W N Frame revolvers; I own five: three 27s/627s in .357 magnum, a 625-9 .45 Colt Mountain Gun, and a 610-3 in 10mm (which also fires .40 S&W, much like .357 magnums also accommodate .38 Special loads).

The 610-3 is a superb firearm. Its accuracy is at least equal to any other handgun I own -- or have ever fired. Abundant .40 S&W loads are inexpensive and great for practice, plinking, target work, IDPA, and so forth. The 10mm is a terrific defensive round (I currently carry Winchester 175 grain Silvertips that provide 1290 FPS muzzle velocity).

I do not think the 10mm is even close to dead. While it is true that the .40 S&W (or 10mm light) is an optimized round that can be accommodated in 9x19-sized autoloaders, many proficient handgunners want the incremental velocity and mass that can be provided in the 10mm.

By the way, I believe the Razorback is produced by Dan Wesson (based on his 1911A1 designs), not Ed Brown.

I always see guns I want to buy when I CAN'T buy them because I JUST bought something else. Last week I saw a Glock 20 with maybe 50 rounds on it for sale. Two 10 round mags and two high caps. $399. I WISH I had bought it! It isn't like there is any practical difference between a NIB Glock and one with 50 rounds through it!

See, nobody ever tells me anything. I didn't even know that the 10mm was ill, much less that it had died so long ago that it's now only a memory, fond or otherwise. Aside from the pistols mentioned above there also are several manufacturers of 10mm ammunition, including a couple of varieties from Georgia Arms.

I've been shooting an EAA Witness for a couple of years. Great gun. Lots of fun.

The Witness always struck me as a potentially great handgun in that caliber. Wouldn't it be fairly close to the Bren Ten?
Any of you guys have any experience with that particular arm to share with me?
I had fired Smith 1006's, Auto Ordnance Tens and the Colt Delta Elites and really enjoyed the latter two guns a lot.

I've handled, but never shot, a Bren 10.

Unfortunately, it was so long ago that I can't really say how it handled compared to a Witness.

I love the 10 and have shot several makes.

Now if Sig would come out with a 10 MM version of their "P" series I would own it.

I've seriously considered the Glock 20. Sixteen shots of 10MM would appear to be one of the more capable handguns.

My next gun will be a Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan, because I backpack often and need something with large animal stopping power. After that however, my next choice WILL be something 10mm. I have wanted one for a while, and now that I know there are more choices than just glocks, I will definetly have to add one to my list.

I've got two Ruger Blackhawks in 38-40/10mm convertible (some people know them as "Buckeye" Blackhawks). It's like shooting two entirely different guns! The 10mm has a definite whomp.....am looking for a 10mm auto to give me a good excuse to load more ammo.

Lots of 10mm fans at "The Ten Ring" over at www.glocktalk.com.

I've got a G29 on order right now as "replacement" for G23 (.40 obtained in 1990) and G36 (.45 sold last year). The (compact) 29 will be a "sometimes" carry gun for the concrete jungle - and (legal) back-up in "archery only" feral hog hunting locations.

I went with the G29 (10+1) instead of the G20 due size being only slightly wider and slightly less height than the G23. Optional G20 15-round magazines already in hand. Other goodies comin' with the gun order.

G29 fps, I understand about 60 less than G20, but significantly more than .40 ("short and weak", per die-hards at The Ten Ring ) ' Spent an extra $90 to get .40 S&W barrel to be able to also shoot the "cheap" stuff.

Great versatility in 10mm loads; got 5 different boxes on order from Double Tap; 135 grain street screamers thru 220 grain pig punchers. Roughly $24 per box of 50. Hunting buddy has got a .40 - and Dillion 550B.

One of my team weapons, besides my M4, is an MP5 10mm. A great weapon with excellent penetration. The 10mm makes a nice clean hole through suburbans, as one of my mates will attest. Unfortunately, it was my vehicle, not his.

If CZ comes out with a 10, then I would be in hog heaven. As it stands, I have the G20 with a Mech-Tech upper for it - it's a kick in the pants. Incidentally, I finally bought a set of dies yesterday for 10mm/.40 - does anyone know what type of slightly-slower burning powder (than standard handgun powder choices) I should try for the 16" Mech-Tech barrel, to get some sick velocities from it, and a massive fireball out of the straight-blowback bolt?

"and a massive fireball out of the straight-blowback bolt?"

First one I think of when I think fireball is Blue Dot.

I don't know about its flame thrower ability in a longer barrel, though.

The Razorback is made by Dan Wesson, along with several other 10mms, including Commander and CCO sized variants. Ed Brown can make a 10mm on request, assuming he hasn't stopped doing so as Baer did.

As far as the 1911 style tens go, are they SA only like other 1911's or are they DA/SA?
