Portland, March 28--The Portland Firearms Training
Team announced today that they will provide any Portland
woman who is dealing with a violent domestic situation with
free defensive handgun training.
Team founder and Director, Lee Anderson, said today,
"We have already trained dozens of Oregonians in the safe
operation and storage of various firearms. Now we need to
reach out to those who are in danger and provide them with
the only real means of defense."
"For years our public officials have counseled women
to obtain restraining orders and dial 911 in an emergency.
These choices have not worked. Violent, crazed attackers do
not obey laws and it is nuts to think we need more gun
control!"
Still the "gun control" orchestra is tuning up
again.
After running a lengthy article on women who have
been killed by violent domestic partners over the last
decade, The Oregonian now calls for more "gun control."
Common sense dictates that the solution to a problem
should be shown to work; it should appear as a real
solution.
The problem here is that irrational, crazed men
sometimes kill women in fits of rage springing from domestic
problems. And what is proposed as a solution? More "gun
control." What about the women who will be beaten or
stabbed or drowned? Don't they count?
The real solution is to provide women who are in
danger the training and the hardware to protect themselves.
The police cannot be everywhere. The advice which is
usually given is to call 911. That summons people who are
armed. And it may take awhile for them to arrive---many
women have been killed while awaiting the cavalry. If she
were armed and trained, she could either drive him off or
stop the attack by force of arms.
