I've been thinking of getting a Remington semiauto to use as the basis of an HD gun to match my existing 870. Unfortunately, even the discount versions of the 1187 are mighty pricey. I've seen two used 1100s at local shops, both priced in the low $400s (with some additional markdown likely) which seems pretty reasonable to me. Is there anything about the 1187 that would make it worthwhile to pony up the difference between it and a used 1100? Anything about a used 1100 that I should check? (I know about the O-rings.)

David, for all intents and purposes, the 1100 may be the better gun and deal. 1100s seem to share the ruggedness of the 870s series, while I know of several near new 1187s back in for warranty work.

With the clay shooters, 1100s are still very popular, and those guys shoot more in a month than most of us do in a year...
