Buying a Mak

There is a Suncoast Gun Show in Pinellas Park, FL this weekend and I am looking for something in 9x18 Mak -- preferably a true Makarov, maybe an FEG PA-63.

I have looked at all the old Mak threads going back a while. What would I currently expect to pay for a Mak at a gun show? Anything in particular to look for or avoid?

Any advice is appreciated.

My ballpark guestimate is to expect to pay between $140 and $165 for a Bulgarian surplus PM (double cirlce 10).

The FEG guns should be south of $100, and if they are more, forget them.

Among the true Maks, the EGermans are the most expensive, and the Bulgarians the least expensive. don't pass up a bulgarian because they are the cheapest. These are excellent guns and functionally equivalent to the EGermans and Russians.

as for non PM maks the Czech CZ-83 and the Polish Vanad P-83, are the best by a long shot.

I paid $154 for my Russian Mak. But mine is chambered for the 380acp.
I have seen the Maks, & PA 63 going for $ 100-$250. I really like my Russian Mak. and am planning to buy the E.German. Very Nice little handgun the EG. I guess it depends on what you are looking for as to what you are going to pay. A shooter or Collector? You will pay more for
a collection piece. Yeah I know that this didnt help much, but I find that the Makarov is an Excellent handgun for whatever you choose it for.
Good Luck & Peace.

Right now buying a Mak is a crap shoot. Supposedly a bunch of Bulgarians are to hit the market soon. Ha Ha. If you can find an EG Mak under $200 snap it up. If the Bulgies arrive they should be a good buy. The PA-63 would be a good buy around $130 and if you find the trigger hard, don't sweat it as you can get a spring set that will solve your problem for $10, that's for the recoil and the hammer springs. They are sold on Makarov.com. I fixed mine by cutting off a couple turns from the hammer spring. Good luck
