Elvis and Clinton (A poem)

He was from Ohio, and she from Tennessee,
and before they met each other, they were as sad as they could be.
He worked on a computer, and used to play baseball
She used to do a lot of stuff, but then she heard the call.

He listened in to Rush, they say, when Rush was counting down,
The days of Clinton’s occupation, of that beltway town.
The more our fellow listened, well, the madder that he got
Til with sweat his forehead glistened,
and his nostrils drooled with snot.
His life, so calm the day before, with baseball and the blues
All disappeared as soon as he sat down and read the news.

''Twas Clinton this and Clinton that, the scandal and the cheat
The lies they told, they land they sold, left our poor friend in heat.

A few states down, our lady friend, was getting lost and blue
The real men that she dated, could not hold a candle to..
The King, she loved, since she had been to Graceland on a tour
And Elvis was the only thing for which she felt allure.

''Twas Elvis this and Elvis that, her house began to fill,
With velvet paintings on the wall, and statues on the sill.
Blue Suede Shoes and Heartbreak from the player in her car
Hound dog, Love Me Tender on the jukebox in the bar.

Her friends grew tired of all the talk, of Elvis this and that,
And they knew that she was slipping when she pompadoured her cat.

His friends, too, they grew tired of all the rage at Willey C,
And they asked him to get on with life, and let that Clinton be.

They met then at a bar, one night, with Elvis playing low,
While he mumbled about Clinton, and she tapped her blue suede toe

Their eyes then met, and hearts leaped up, a pounding in their breast
They knew they found a perfect mate, another soul obsessed.

This first night set the tone for all the nights that were to follow...
He talked all about Clinton, until he had to swallow,
Then she dived in with the King, and Oh, how hard his life had been,
Until she stopped to take a breath, and he started in again.

Obsession seems a fragile thing to bind two folks together
You might think love or even sex would work a whole lot better.
But other folks would soon grow tired, and tell them each to shelve it,
And Clinton dart boards on the wall look nice with Elvis Velvet

Gary, I tried to post something to counter your poem, but it just didn't measure up.

You're the King!

I shouldn't encourage this, but

Set it to music and sell it to Blake Shelton or Toby Keith.

What Ckurts said... Even ALan Jackson could pull it off pretty well!
