"Scotty the Skateboard"

OK, does anyone know if this contains anti propaganda or if it's a neutral "stop, don't touch, tell an adult" lesson a la Eddie Eagle?

New gun safety video available for educators, law enforcement

A talking skateboard is the unlikely hero of a new animated cartoon that promotes gun safety.

“Scotty the Skateboard” features a diverse cast of four students who find a gun and a skateboard named “Scotty” that helps the kids do the right thing. In the video, the youth must make a pivotal choice: What should they do with the gun that looks real?

Produced by the Michigan Education Association in collaboration with the Lansing Police Department, the video is appropriate for children in grades 1 through 6.

The 6-minute video will be available beginning October 24, the day designated this year to observe the “Day of National Concern about Young People and Gun Violence.” We are now taking advance orders for the video — click here to order. Also available, at a later date, will be supplemental materials such as coloring books, stickers and erasers.

The program can be used to stimulate conversation during class lessons on gun safety, or during all-school assemblies where local law enforcement officials talk with students about safety issues.

The “Scotty” program features the voices of four Lansing Public Schools students, a Lansing police officer and a mid-Michigan teacher who portray the animated characters.

To read more about the children involved in creating "Scotty" and the media coverage of this new video, go to mipublicschools.org.

It LOOKS like an Eddie-Eagle type deal, but having been produced by the MEA. . . . well, I was a member of the NEA and the IEA for about two years, and I can't imagine either passing up a chance to lecture children about how guns are evil and they should tell their parents to throw their guns in the ocean.

Yeah, and I seem to recall something about the Lansing PD supporting anti causes, though I can't recall what right now (and I might be misremembering).

the lo' down on scotty......

I bought the tape. I wanted to compare it to Eddie Eagle's tape which I also have. The characters are in 3-d format instead of cartoon like Eddie is and they seem to move slowly. I don't see any ANTI message in it. I guess they just wanted a tape that wasn't an NRA production. They wanted the character to rap, I guess, to reach that inner city youth. It is a copy of Eddie Eagle but in a "rap" set up. Eddie kicks Scotty's a** though . The skate board raps:

1) Do not touch
2) Don"t get near
3) Find an adult,
don't touch do you hear?
