Do you have a Round Chamberd?
When you carry, do you keep a round in the chamber? This has been a hot point of discussion for me and a few friends recently. The points of both sides are obvious at first glance. You should keep oe chamberd, because drawing a gun is no good if you dont have time to pull the slide back. Clearly you shouldnt, because it increases the chances of an accidental, yet still your fault, discharge.
for me anyways, its not black and white. Whats your thoughts? |

It clearly depends where I am and the situation. If I'm carrying openly in public, of course one is chambered, if I'm just out in the woods or such no. If CCW, yes...what use is an empty pipe if someone is coming at you?
I look at it as if in the woods, if I can't take the extra 1.5 seconds to rack the slide, I've got some issues. I figure with the chance of an equipment malfunction or me falling, it coming out, getting stuck on a tree branch, etc...it won't have the change of an accidental discharge. |

Nope, the gun laws here in estonia are strange, you must carry your weapon hidden and you can not have a round in the chamber

All the time...
It won't do you much good without it in the chamber.

Hmm. Thatr is a strange law. I tried to edit the Poll to amke that an option, but I cant. Maybe an admin can do that for us? Thanks.
I think its alot in the holster. I have two. One is a really cheap cloth on. I dont trust it at all. The other is a Desantis "Tuck This" Over all I like it. It holds the gun well. In that holster, I might have one chambered. |

"Isn't it dangerous to have a round in the chamber??"
"Son, if it wasn't dangerous, I wouldn't be carrying it!!!"

The only semi-auto that I don't carry C&L is my VIS-35. One simply cocks it to fire single action. It DOES have one in the chamber though.

One in the chamber at all times when carrying. One less thing to worry about if one needs to use his personal firearm.

An unloaded or unprepared gun is basically the equivalent of a very expensive rock!

Welllllll.......
I don't carry one in the chamber. That's only because of the type of safety it has. Cocked and locked is as safe as long as its user is well practiced with it. Decockers with one in the chamber are also safe, again, as long as the user is well practiced with it. Bottome line, practice makes perfect. No practice means embarrassing accidents.

Greeting's All-
For the record, I carry a West German .45 caliber P220A which has a total of 3 passive safety's. With that said, I always have a W-W SilverTip JHP resting in the chamber; followed by seven more in the mag. Best Wishes, |
