Multi-Caliber Handguns?

Revolvers and Semiautos.

I'll throw the first one out:

.38/.357 Revolver

Okay

.357 Sig/ .40 S&W semiauto if you swap barrels.

Still not seeing your point with this thread, though.

I used to have one of the Counts' Astras. It fired just about any 380, 9MM, 38 S&W, 9MM Largo, 9MM Japanese, 9MM Steyr and basically anything that would feed from the magazine. It just did.

Not sure what works

NOt exactly sure of all the combinations that work - but heres a good site of things that definatly DO NOT work :

http://www.saami.org/unsafe3.htm

Also note that reverses are NOT true - you can fire 38 spc in 357, NOT 357 in 38, etc

Unless you are 100% sure of cartridge compatabilty its a dangerous game to play.

Jelly,

With respect, I do not agree with your “multi-caliber” wording. The caliber (diameter) is identical; for example, a .38 Special’s and a .357 magnum’s projectile/bullet are both .357 diameter. Perhaps “multiple-cartridge” might be a more accurate way to word your question?

Worth noting that the Astra will chamber a couple cartridges that are not safe to fire in that gun. 9x21 and .38 Super, if memory serves.

Interesting post, but just for those who may get the wrong idea from this. I am telling those people that they should just stick to the manufacturers specs regardging some serious safety reasons.

The Astra CAN chamber some rounds that are UNSAFE TO FIRE! I have a Colt DA 38 that chambers 38 Long Colt, 38 S&W, 38 Special and 357 Magnum! The 38 Long Colt BLACK POWDER cartridge is the only safe round to fire. I have seen a few WWII Enfield revolvers bored straight through so that they will chamber wadcutter 38 Specials. I have seen WWII S&W Victory revolvers also bored straight through to chamber 38 S&W and 38 Special, the problem is, many also chamber 357 Magnum! NOT SAFE! I have also seen post-war Walther P1s that were reamed out from 9MM to 30 Luger. AFAIK, that is a safe conversion.

Guns that fire .32 H&R Magnum can also fire .32 S&W long, .32S&W, and .32 ACP.

The Nagant revolver can fire 7.62x38R Nagant, .32 H&R Mag (iffy), and .32 S&W long; and can fire .32ACP with a conversion cylinder.

What about the "Medusa"? Its USA Manufactured but I cannot think of the name right now but Its a revolver that chambers and fires most anything from .380 Auto to .357 Mag with no modifications or moon clips.

The medusa, while a good idea, is tricky to operate, and not so accurate with certain loads. Id rather just have a revolver chambered in .357 mag, then have it moon clipped, so thai i could use 9mm out of it (im not sure of the pressures, and if this is safe, so recearch it before you do it), if it would be a safe conversion. That way I could shoot .38 spl, 9mm, .380, etc out of it.
