Sigma 40 clip problems
Hi;
This is my first look at this forum and also my first post. Seems to be widely used and hopefully I can get some info from you all regarding my problem. I bought a S&W Sigma Series 40 cal. semi auto five years ago for home protection, yadda, yadda, yadda.(nice to have it in the house). When I first got it my wife and I took it to a Wisconsin DNR range and went through a few boxes of target rounds to get familiar with the weapon. At that time I remember having difficulty getting the clip to stay locked in place, but we got through the shoot with some difficulty. Today my son and I went to the range and my Sigma clip problem got worse to the point where I was having a problem with the clip popping out after each shot. Got home, cleaned the weapon and tried to figure out what I could do to get the lock pin to engage the clip without forcing it. Before I do something stupid I thought I would tap this resource for any info that would help me repair the problem. Would appreciate any input. Gotta think I'm not the first to have this problem with a Sigma. Seems there are several issues with the design. Thanks, Mike |

I had this same sort of problem with my 357V Sigma. I began having trouble getting the mags to lock in place, which progressed to the point that they wouldn't do it at all. Is your gun one of the early or "1st generation" Sigmas? The reason I ask is that my 357 was based on the 40V Sigma. I did notice that the new mag release had a metal insert inside the magwell (the area bearing on the magazine). I don't know if it was there to begin with. You might try shining a flashlight down the magwell and determine whether the mag release looks like it's been chewed (this, btw, is a common problem for people who used metal mags in Glocks).
My Sigma was more a range gun than anything else, so I sent it back to S&W. They sreplaced the mag catch, along with safety upgrades and had the gun back to me in 10 days. Didn't cost me anything but shipping one way. S&W might send you a new mag catch and you could put it in yourself. If it's the same procedure as the Glock (and it probably is), it's ridiculously simple. |
