I have seen comments from more than one person that had T&E'd both
They all preferred the HK..... But they had little (read specialized) use for either one I still want one....don't know why

I really wouldn't be unhappy having either weapon. I would certainly pick the HK though.

I have never cared for the looks of the FN but I know they make excellent products. Hk is a great company and I am very familiar with their products.
HK all the way. |

I dont understand why the FN P90 is so popular.
It is too big to be a personal defense weapon for non-combatants IMO. The HK MP7's size is just right IMO and I like the company more. Yet, I dont see them on TV like I do the P90s. voted HK MP7 I actually liked the TMP more before steyr stopped making them.

The P90 makes a better TV weapon because it's recognizably a firearm, but it isn't of typical/traditional design or layout.
And Brugger + Thomet is making the TMP, but as the MP-7.

Toss up for me too. Have more experience with HK products but from an Engineering standpoint, the FN's loading system is intriguing.

Hmmmmm.....
FN makes a civilian version of the P90, called the PS90, with a 16.1" bbl and 30rd mags.
HK doesn't make a civilian version of the UMP, G-36 or the MP-7, let alone the HK-94, HK-91, etc. anymore. Sounds like FN wants my business and HK cares only about LEO/Gov't contracts. Guess what I'll buy when the time comes?

In civi versions, neither. In LEO versions, P90 - hard to beat 50 rounds of full-auto controllable firepower.

According to the latest Shotgun News, the magazine on the PS90 is the same as the magazine on the P90, only the follower is larger. According to them trimming the follower is all you have to do to convert it to a 50 rounder instead of the 30.
My vote goes to the FN. |

The only law enforcement group I have seen with the P90 is the Secret Service. Saw a photo of some swat guys around the white house with them. Also saw video of a law enforcement officer in New Orleans during the flood with one. Not sure who he was with.
I heard they both penetrate body armor well. I'm an Hk fan but in this case it seems to be a toss up.

If the NFA didn't exist and I could actually have one of those, I'd probably opt to cut down an 870 instead. Or maybe I'd get a shorty AK if rifle velocity was a must. I just can't stand the idea of using that small of a projectile when something bigger is available. However, I am NOT saying I wouldn't enjoy owning either or both if it was legal. Those look like they have to be so much fun to shoot.

OF Fascist,
The reason HK sometimes shies away from civie sales is because of all the hoops and hurdles to jump over...and the very small market. Most people don't want / can't afford these type guns... |

Mmmm-hmmm. That's why they deliberately designed their semi-auto "sporter" G36, the SL8-1, so that it couldn't ever accept 30-round G36 magazines, even after an eventual AWB sunset. Oddly enough, the European SL8 was left with its magazine well and receiver unscalloped, so European customers can use regular G36 mags.

The P90 doesn't make any sense at all to me... You can't wear it in a thigh or across the chest holster like you can with the MP7, so it has little use as a PDW for someone like a cook or high ranking officer, and its horribly underpowered for use by a truck driver or something who could just use an M4. Its too big for a pilot to use, except a blackhawk pilot who once again could simply use an M4. As much as I have lukewarm feelings for the M4 its still a huge step up from the P90 considering both are what I consider full size. Same goes for the MP5, underpowered for its size.
I think guns like the MP7, MP5K, BXP, and MACs and TMP still have a place because they're small enough to be easily concealed by someone like a bodyguard, and small enough to go into a holster and be used as a PDW. Full size submachineguns have some very, very limited roles to fill. |

PS90 takes standard P90 magazines. I don't even know that anyone sells the 30-rounders outside of the retail kit.
I voted P90. |
