Well....
According to world.guns.ru, the MP7 weighs 1.5 KGs empty while the P90 weighs 2.54 KGs empty. I dont know if that includes the scope on the P90 or not. And the HK MP7 has optional 40 round magazines that should be compatible with the HK UCP as well. http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hk_ucp_3.jpg

Hmm..
If you stick a 25 (or 40, or some other full capacity mag) into the H&K, it will dwarf the P90. I've handled a (real) P90 at a few gun shows, and they are small and slick, and don't have many sharp edges to snag crap on. You can run your hands along it andd feel how oddly smooth their design is. I just wish they put a better optical sight on it (brighter reticle w/ battery power), but that can be remedied with a top rail. It also has TWO backup iron sight units built in, one for right, one for left handed shooters as backup. I was impressed at how well thought out their system was. In terms of raw performance, the P90 has the H&K beat- longer barrel, higher velocity, higher mag capacity in a concealable size. The H&K is only small with a mag small enough to make auto-fire a dubious proposition at best. For concealment, the H&K may have a slight edge, but you're still using that small PISTOL sized mag for concealability- remember the P90 was designed specifically to be no wider than a normal person's shoulders, to ease entry and exit into vehicles or doors.. I believe the 5.7 has a performance edge over the 4.6 ammo as well, but both are still hard (impossible in the case of 4.6) to obtain. I'd still take one of each though- you wouldn't have to twist my arm ![]() -Dave PS- is it me, or does the H&K look like it takes modded USP mags??! |

+1 for FN PS90
The size and weight of the P90/PS90 doesn't affect me in the least. I think the size and weight are well balanced for the FN model. The FiveseveN is also well built in design. HK is a good company but, doesn't catter much for civilians. The P90 and PS90 are in high demand. I have seen prices paid as high as $2,500. I paid $1,800(1st batch) and don't regret it considering how hard it is to get one. Accuracy is amazing, clean up is a snap, and the design is smooth and snag free. There are many upgrades for the PS90 including shorter barrels, longer stocks and accessories. My only complaint is the cost of ammo but, prices will come down when other companies jump the bandwagon producing the growing popular 5.7 x 28mm rounds. Would I like a MP7? YES. I think the HK name is respectable but, after shooting a PS90 I was sold. |

A little off topic, but if these rounds prove to be good manstoppers on 'the street', I'd *LOVE* to see a 6 shot 3" bbl Scandium revolver (J frame) in 5.7x28! A 3" revolver barrel is roughly like a 5" auto bbl (add the cylinder)...

P90
never shot a P7... but liked the P90 a lot. it was much easier to move around than an M4 indoors, great balance, low recoil, and 50 rounds. i hate reloading it though. as for concealment it'd do ok in a shoulder sling under a suit. it's tough to explain if you never handled one but the P90 has great "pointability". i can swing it around, get on target, and shoot faster than the M4 for indoor/close range.
the P7 can be concealed in a holster (a massive holster though) under a suit so it'll probably replace the Uzi and MP5 since non body armor piercing 9mms are falling out of a favor by body guards. i can't see the U.S. military going toward the P7 as a standard issue PDW for support staff even though that's what it is designed for. i think pretty much everyone is going to get at least the cheaper M4/M16 for a main weapon since the military already has them and the bullets plus the standard training for them. And in places like Iraq it the "rear" support staff who get attacked in firefights as often if not more than the "frontline" troops. That sort of calls into question if the PDW concept even makes sense for the military. Maybe the PDW concept works for very niche groups like bodyguards who need to conceal their weapon but not sure if it works for our modern warfighting groups. |
