Sigma Owners Read Me....

I have a sigma 40ve, and I love it. I have fed it about 1000 rounds so far and have had no problems. I got it because I had a glock 23 and sold it. I wanted another one but I read the reviews on the sigma and its similarity to the glock. It even feels better than the glock and for about $250 less. So I made the decision to just go with the sigma.

My inquiry is this:

I have read about how sucky the sigma .380 is and how it doesn't last. I haven't read anything similar about the 9ve or the 40ve, but I was curious to hear if anyone here has had any problems with either one?

Like I said I have put about 1000 rounds through with flawless operation and no problems. Just want to get an idea about the service life of this firearm.

I had a Sigma 9mm.

I can't remember if mine was one of the "early" or "late" ones, I've heard the "late" ones are better...but nonetheless it was a complete piece of excrement.

If you could list any and all problems you could possibly have with a handgun...I had it with this gun.

I bought it cheap...and sold it cheap. I don't think I fired more than 4 or 5 boxes through it before I dumped it.

I started a thread before I bought mine...http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...d.php?t=108360

You will hear people say the "late" ones or "newer" ones or whatever they call them are more reliable etc...but to me, if I have to worry about buying a model manufactured in a certain time period...I just avoid the entire situation all together.

When faced with the situation of rushing and buying something with questionable reliabilty for $300 (+ or -) or waiting a little while and saving some more dough and getting something in the $400 - $600 range and have no worries about the quality...I'll take the second option every time.

I owned, for a very short time a Sigma .380. It was a joke. And, I have heard that the first larger Sigma's that came out were bad. They had lots of problems. But, from what you read online the Enhanced Sigma's like you have are very good pistols. The most complaints now seem to be with the trigger.

I know a friend that has a .40 Enhanced Sigma that has been a very good pistol and I know of a retired LEO who carried a Sigma while most of the dept. he worked for carried Glocks. This man is a gunsmith and he and his son run/own a shop here close to me.

The Sigma came out about the time that S&W made the deal with the devil so to speak. That, and the fact that the first Sigma's were bad has given ALL Sigma's a bad name.

But, the truth is that the new, Enhanced Sigma's are a very good pistol, especially for the cost of them.

The Sigma .380 was a very different design, blowback if I recall, with a cheap, non-steel slide. Not a fair comparison.

First generation Sigmas, like one I owned, were not good, often had extraction problems as even S&W confessed in their own publication. First Series did not have a good reputation.

Newer Sigmas, VE series, seem to be better.

I actually owned two Sigmas. Both were absolute crap. I literally gave the .40 away. The other was the tiny 9mm. I really wanted that gun to work. It was small, lite, and concealable. Unfortuneately it was totally unreliable.

The SW9VE and the SW40VE are the improved models. I had a SW40VE and it was great, no problems what so ever. A lot of gun for $299.

I own both the 40VE and SW380, both have worked great for me. Although my main carry gun is my G19, the SW380 gets plenty of carry time on my ankle and the 40VE gets to ride every blue moon. I hear all the time about the earlier Sigmas being hit & miss, but the newer ones have excellent reviews with the exception of the heavy trigger.

my sw9ve has been totally reliable in over 7000 rounds.

the trigger isn't the best, but it works.
