3M Scotch brite GLOCK barrel Finish.
forgive me if this is already posted, but I just got my glock back from georgia for a slide refinish.
So, I also wanted the barrel to be finished due to the wear from the slide rubbing on it and also the edges of the barrel part where you can see with the 9X19 and serial # was wearing at the edges. but glock wanted 20 more dollars so I told them to not bother with the barrel. When I got it back, he slide looked so nice and new, and in contrast the barrel looked so beat up, it really bothered me for hours staring at it. SO I took a pad of scotch brite and rubbed it to a steel finish. ( dont worry, I totally cleaned the jibberish out of the barrel and exteriors). I think it looks real nice, at the cost of one pad of scotchbrite, (and the scotchbrite can still be used to clean the sink ) here is a pic, what do you think ? |

Oh, dry. It is a satin brushed kind of finish.

I think it looks great. Was the barrel black before you scrubbed it to death? I'd like to do that to mine as well.

I think it does look nice. But I wonder how it is going to wear. The finish was there in the first place to slow/stop rusting. I wonder if you are going to have surface rust problems now unless you baby it?

I think the rust wont be a problem, as I usually put a thin layer of oil all over the barrel...

You shouldn't have any problem with rust, the tenifer process used to harden the metal makes it extremely rust resistant.

After seeing your's I did similar to my sig, I used 600 grit wet sand, no scratches, nice finish and a sharp contrast to the gun

Looks great. I doubt you'll have any real trouble with rust. But, if you should see some, just buff it off. You could rub on a *light* coating of RIG after each cleaning for extra protection.

I think sig barrels are stainless, the top of the barrel was already from the factory bare, so the rest will be fine I suspect. Its a bad picture, but in person the gun looks alot sharper now that I did that .

I think it looks a lot better without the bbl black. I don't think you should have a problem with rust if you oil it just like any other gun.

As an aside, I used to have an Astra 600/43 with an in-the-white barrel that looked great at 50+ years old. |

After seeing the pictures you inspired me to do the same to my glock g19. used the scotch brite as well looks great, thanks for the info and pictures. oh and for any one thats thinking of doing this you really do not have to scrub hard the blue comes off pretty easy.

In knifemaking I use Scotchbrite belts in differents grits for finishing so that was a great idea. You shouldn't have any rust problems, as it's still a pretty fine finish.
