RIA 1911 jams?

I have a RIA 1911, yes I know its a cheap gun . The gun frequently jams with the rnd 1/2 way into the chamber. Far enough that the bullet cant be seen. What common causes are their for this type of ftf? I have use rem and win hp. I dont know it bullet type can cause a jam after the rnd is already started into the chamber?

Thanks.

I'm not a gunsmith, amateur or otherwise, but I've seen this happen in autos due to a rough feed ramp. If that's what's happening, its a pretty inexpensive fix to have it smoothed out.

I had an RIA

(actually Charles Daly, both are made by Armscor) that I bought used. Mine was a 3 1/2" and had a serious feeding problem (about 50% of the rounds).
Give these guys a try-they are pretty sharp.

http://forum.m1911.org/index.php?

They have an Armscor site with a rep who you can contact for parts, technical advice, and so on.

BTW, mine just took an extractor tune to get squared away--I didn't have to send it out or pay anyone to fix it...and I am a 1911 (gunsmithing) rookie.

One of the guys on the forum told me to remove the extractor and see if it would feed. If so, "tune" the extractor (do a search). Worked out fine.

I sold it because I wanted something lighter (an alloy-framed 1911), not because I didn't like it.

Stick with it and you will enjoy it. Good luck.

It sounds like its jamming in the hood of the chamber. You didnt say if it was jamming with fmj or not. If not you can use CorBon Powerball or Federal EFMJ's for carry and fmj for practice. Good luck

Try different magazines

My Firestorm did that on the 2nd round with factory mag. Started using my Springfield mags & haven't jammed yet, i also bought some Chip McCormick mags & my Firestorm has been completely reliable with them.

+1 on the mag

I have a Kimber Eclipse Ultra that did the same thing. Switched to Wilson mags and have had no further problems.

Tune extractor and smooth the feed ramp

You either need to tune the extractor or smooth the feed ramp. (Sometimes you need to do both.) It shouldn't cost you too much. Good luck and take care.

I often had the same problem, but with my CZ 85B. I first thought it was a technical problem of my gun. But I was told it was because my wrist was too limp when I shooted.

I would "check" ammo first, mag second and then gun.
