Taurus 85ssul

I bought a brand new Taurus 85SSUL. During it's first range session today, the action completely locked up after about 50 rounds. The hammer won't cock and the trigger won't move but I was able to release the cylinder. Any possible fix(es) before I send it back for repair? I know, I know, it's a Taurus. Thank you so much!

Did you clean it before you shot it?

Your Taurus should have a lock on it at the base of the hammer. You may have a problem with the lock. Try the key that came with the gun and see if it is in the locked position.

Yes, I alwlays clean my firearms as soon as I get home from the store. First thing that came to mind was the lock, but it was not the culprit. I called Sportsman Warehouse and they offered to send it back to Taurus on their dime. Well, I thought, since it is going back to the factory, I wanted to know if I can figure out what was wrong with it. So I removed the grips, then the face plate screws. Face plate screws came off without any effort at all (they were LOOSE), not a good sign. I removed the face plate and inspected the action to figure out what was seizing it. After much poking, it looked like the triger spring swivel (see pic that I borrowed from another post) has rotated counter clockwise a little bit (maybe caused by the loose screw, since this is pressed down by the face plate)? I rotated it clockwise until it aligned with the trigger spring center and voila, it's no longer seized. I cleaned and lubed the action, put some blue locktite on the swivel, put the plate back on and used a little locktite on the screws to keep them in place. I will take it back to the range on Thursday after work. Thank you for all your replies.

Thanks for the closeup of the innards. Any of those parts look cast to you?

I have owned an 85SS/UL for approx. 3 years, I'll put it up against any S&W 637, anyday. In fact I just purchased a 637 this week and was a little disappointed in it. My 85 has performed flawlesssly. hpg

My Taurus is different from the pictured Taurus.

Interesting. Yours is rather different from mine, internally.

Behold, a late 80s vintage model 66, with sideplate removed:

Note how well the trigger return spring on mine is shrounded, vs. your pic.

Yours is a medium frame revolver, right?

That's not the picture of my revolver, but very similar. I borrowed that from another post here. Anyway, it locked up again during the next range session. I thought about sending it back to Taurus, but I cannot trust it anymore after the second occurrance. Will I buy another Taurus revolver again? Maybe! I have a model 44 that's been rock solid - the reason why I bought the 85SSUL for pocket carry. I guess I'm batting .500 with Taurus. BTW, I now have a SW 360SC for pocket carry. Thanks for all your replies.
