My restored M1 from DGR

Took my M1 Garand out to the rifle range today.

Thanks Dean!

I had it sent to Deans Gun Restoration. I had a new stock put on, parkerizing from head to toe, Barnett Douglas military match barrel legal for the John C. Garand Matches, trigger job and replacing some parts that were out of spec. It was shot with the Greek ammo that the CMP has. The sights used were the regular issue sights as I chose not to install NM sights.

Here are some of my groups at 100 yards off a rest under the barrel.

Had a couple of flyers but that twas the poor old fart who cant see as good as he used too

If they ever recall me to duty Im taking the Garand with me and tell em they can keep the M16.

Eghad, thanks for the picture of the target, but WHERE'S A PICTURE OF YOUR RIFLE? Dean does some great work. I had him do one for me with a black/gray laminated stock that really sets of his parkerizing. A new Criterion barrel and I put on a black leather CMP sling. Shoots like a million bucks, just like yours. Oh yeah, it's a bit unconventional, but then I have two other "conventional" M1's that I've restored myself.

Dean does great work!

I just bought my first M1 from CMP and I'd really like to see what other people are doing with them.

You guys are making me feel guilty about my M1.Still the same gun I received from CMP. Took this shot just after FEDEX delivered it.

support_six, I love the look of that laminated stock on your DGR Garand. How does it work for you? Do you notice any significant difference in weight versus the standard military stock?

Dean also provides just parkerizing or parkerizing & stock refinishing services. So if you have a good rifle that just needs that he can do it for you plus give you a tech report on your rifle along with it as he tears em down to make sure the parkerizing is uniform and complete over all the rifle.

not to hijack your thread but i inherited an M1 that my grandfather supposedly used in the war and was allowed to take it home (or somehow got it home) it is in what i would consider great condition, what would the value be on a gun like that???

I wonder what DGR would do with a FN-49. They list it as one of the rifles on which they work.

Eghad, what type or 'grade' of stock did you get? Looks nice!

If you had some kind of paperwork that your grandfather purchased the service rifle and what battles it was used in it would probably add value to the rifle.

Otherwise it would probably sell for what a M-1 in the same condition would go for.

Leif, it doesn't seem to weigh any more than a standard walnut stock. I haven't weighed it but it seems about the same. As far as shooting, I don't shoot matches but would like to take it hunting deer or elk next year. Here in Washington, there is no magazine limit so the standard 8 round enbloc clips are legal. But it's more accurate than I am.

Eghad, that rifle's got Dean's fingerprints all over it. Beautiful!

K80Geoff, your rifle looks great! I'm not sure I'd put another stock on it. I've refinished a few of the stocks that came on my other M1's myself and like them too. ...but the one on the rifle I sent to Dean needed a new barrel and a new stock so I let the best have it to work his magic on. Dean's not cheap but his work is worth the cost!

I went back and checked out the laminated stocks which come in a variety of colors at DGR. I think a red, white and blue laminated stock on a M-1 would be pretty cool.

I'm seriously considering selling my rifles (what few I have) and throwing the money into a project like what support_six has. I don't believe that I've heard a bad word yet about DGR, either here or elsewhere (THR, jouster, etc.).

Time to find me a receiver ...
