My new S&W model 60/unfluted

My x-mas present arrived today. A new S&W model 60 with 2-1/8" barrel and unfluted cylinder. I love it. can't wait to take it to the range. i think I have a new favorite carry revolver.

S&w M60

Well Santa Claus was really good you. It is indeed a beautiful little revolver. I especially like the unfluted cylinder and the all black pinned front sight. Enjoy!!!

I've never seen an unfluted cylinder on a M60 before. Mine is fluted. That is a dandy! You must have been a very good boy for Santa to bring you that for Christmas!

Beautiful Revolver

But, I hope you have good wrists. That .357 screaming out of your 2 1/8" barrel should shake the ground a bit. Again, nice looking piece.

That is a beautiful little snub nose. I have a older model 60 in 38 special and love it. My wife normally carries it though.

The only time this baby will ever fire full load .357mags is in a life and death situation. I will practice with .38spl rounds. I can shoot my .44mag Alaskan all day with no problem. I can handle recoil, but these small .357mags tend to sting to much and are too snappy for me to shoot comfortably.

Sweeeeeeeeet!

I haven't seen that model before. I would love to have one. I am partial to unfluted cylinders.

These days I think fluted and unfluted are basically just a visual preference. originally i think the designs had to do with strength and weight. The unfluted cylinder just looks alot better to me.

unfluted

Visually, I think it looks great. When I had a limited edition 686 with an unfluted cylinder, I found that it was easier to clean, as for strength, I don't know, but I would assume it is.

Well the cylinder is only as strong as its thinnest part (the outside walls directly above each chamber) The missing flutes would've been between the chambers. Unfluted probably does nothing but add weight and give the gun a unique look.

I like the way it looks with that cylinder. Nice! As far as weight goes the difference is too small to notice. (3\10ths of a ounce, it looks like)
Sweet little gun.

Yeah, the weight difference is listed as being .3oz and I doubt many people are going to be able to notice that.

I took it shooting today and it was a dream. The first five rounds I fired .357mags...won't be doing that very ften. A little bit harsh.

The rest of the time I fired .38spl and it shot great. The trigger is amazingly smooth and the gun is very accurate. At 20ft I was able to put a nice nice smiley face pattern on the target. I like my assailant targets to look happy.
