Sig Sauer P229 .40 S&W

I was at the range yesterday and decided to give my Sig P229 a little workout. I had kind of neglected this pistol after getting some of my newer toys (Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special and H&K P7M8) and didn't shoot it for a while. I can't believe how rediculously accurate this gun is. I was having a good day yesterday, but the Sig almost made it seem easy to shoot tiny little groups. The single action break was light and had very little travel after the initial slack was taken up.

I think it could really be the Sig sights though. The Stovenhagen (spelling? ) sights with the rear bar and front dot make horizontal alignment very fast (possibly the fastest). When a gun points as naturally as the Sigs do, vertical alignment isn't much of an issue at all, especialy when dealing with bad guys at typical gunfight distances. What do you guys think of Sig's sights?

I have SIG's with both, but I like their 3 dot night sights the best.

I have 3 SIGs - and I like the night sights the best - but they are not bad guns at all for the money.

On my 226's I use my off hand to cock the hammer as I bring the gun up - and then shoot it as a single action gun ( taking that 10 lb pull out of the equation ). I shoot them pretty well - but not as well as my 1911's. But SIG does make nice guns.

I'm new to the world of Sigs but my 229 is so accurate it almost pisses me off: one little failure on my part and it shows up on paper like clockwork. It's also the first pistol I've owned with night sights. I like them alright, but I think I'd actually be happier with a single insert in the front sight alone.

I recently purchased a P229R w/ night sights. I was kind of hoping to get the SRT installed before I took the pistol home, but it looks like you have to send it in after you buy it. What did you mean by taking up the initial slack on the trigger? I love the gun and it is very accurate, but it's tough to get used to the excessive pretravel before the break as I am used to either a single action (1911)or a consistent double action (Glock).

My P229's, standard DA triggers, have about 3/8" travel in SA. The reset is about the same. I moved into SIG's a little over a year ago from a lifetime of of mostly 1911 carry and shooting. I had really no transition troubles, and quickly adapted to the SIG's DA triggers. About the same time they came out with the DAK and now the short reset, but I really dont feel the need for either. I guess it all depends on how picky you are about your triggers and how much you work with them. SIG's standard DA triggers are actually very nice compared to some others I've shot. I shoot a lot of DA revolvers, so the standard DA trigger on the SIG wasnt really an issue, as I already had muscle tone there. The switch between the first and second shots was a little different at first, but I dont notice it at all now.

Maybe I'm doofy for doing this, but I always put a white dot on the sights of my guns where that one is on the rear sight of the Sigs. I found I liked that sight as well and found it makes horizontal alignment a lot easier for me as well. So when I shoot I actually line up 4 dots now rather than just three.
