I guess the Iraqis don't have a problem with personal ownership of firearms, yet here we are still arguing about it after 200+ years; and we have it in writing!

"Tank" and his paratroopers linked up with a squad of Iraqi National Police. The Iraqis took the lead going into homes, and we followed. People were quite willing for us to look around and film. Sometimes there's just one family in each dwelling, and sometimes the buildings can be pretty crowded. Inside the main living area there's usually religious pictures on the wall.

The Iraqis were searching for illegal weapons. Each household is allowed one AK47-type rifle and one magazine of ammunition for personal protection. In total, today, we found just two illegal weapons. "Tank" told me you'd be lucky to shoot pigeons with them. The Iraqi police inspected the guns, and presumably drew the same conclusions as "Tank" because the weapons were handed back to the owners.

I don't see how being "allowed" one AK-47 and one magazine of ammunuition translates into an individual "right". The Iraqi Parliament just has to pass a law repealing that "right" and it's history. Heck, a mere Presidential Proclamation may well do the same thing.

I heard the "one AK-47 is A-OK" thing was a coalition rule. Might not beat our rights here, but sure goes further when it comes to full-auto!

Next what they'll be saying (at the UN) in a few hundred years if they fix it up to be more than a third world country and are ready for acceptance into the UN is "Ok you don't need that for protection anymore, you are a civilized country" while the Iranians or another " mere third world country" gets ready for invasion.
