Anybody seen one? Are they any better than the cast frame models?

Do you have a link to one? I've been hearing about them but cant find any info anywhere including Uberti's website. I imagine they'll look the same as thier regular models. Maybe their designed for use with conversion cylinders. I wonder why they would pick that one model to offer with a forged frame?

Why only that model for a forged frame? I can guess, for what that's worth. First, of the solid frame models out there, the Remington is by far the most popular. Second, forging the frame of a Colt-style open top won't make it strong. It might make it stronger than it was, but it's still not going to be strong on any absolute scale.
You already have a bajillion steel-framed Remington replicas out there, and I've never heard anyone say they weren't plenty strong. I wonder whether the forged frame really would be any stronger than a good investment casting, and if so whether the difference would be enough to matter. I guess time will tell. But, of course, Uberti's point is not whether forging is technically better (assuming investment casting is good enough to be safe, as it seems to be). Uberti's point is whether a forged-frame Remington would sell. They'd make 'em out of Monel bronze, or titanium, or aluminum, or some weird science fiction ceramic composite, if they knew they could sell enough of them. |

Uberti offers the 1860 Richards Mason conversion revolvers in forged frame. Maybe just a natural progression in a quality manufacturing method.
EDIT: Last time I was looking at BuffaloArms website they were offering Uberti 1858 Rems w/cap ball and a conversion cylinder, as a set. Notice that the frame is cut out and the loading gate! Very good price I might add. http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/2,334.html Last edited by marcseatac; April 1, 2007 at 06:48 PM. |

Aren't Rugers cast frame revolvers? IF it is strong enough for smokeless with modern steels, it ought to hold up with soft lead and BP I would think. Maybe for folks that want to do conversions and shoot smokeless or something, getting away from basic BP replica concept. Mine is a few years old so must be cast.
