Kevin Costner Calls For Stricter Gun Laws
By Staff
May 28, 2007

Kevin Costner is urging U.S. lawmakers to come up with a series of strict new gun legislation - even if it limits his own shooting time.

The Dances With Wolves star admits he loves to hunt and often heads out with his dogs and a shotgun passed down through generations of his family, but he's the first to admit that America's gun laws are too weak.

And following the recent tragedy (Apr06) at Virginia Tech college, where English student Cho Seung-Hui killed 32 people in what was the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history, Costner feels that legislators should get tough with firearms owners, who refuse to accept their practices could harm others.

He says, "I'm a hunter, I hunt but I think there should be gun laws. I think there should be a lot of gun laws.

"I don't want to lose my shotgun but there's a real good reason why I use my shotgun. It came from my grandpa. His cheek was on it. My dad's cheek was on it and I go out and hunt with my dogs.

"My gun's an heirloom to me and my son, one day, when I'm gone, is gonna know, `Your dad hunted with that.'

"But, even though with the connection that I have to my gun, can I look at the Nra (National Rifle Association) and say, `I think you're out of line?' I can say that." (c)

Maybe someone should tell him that there are already 20,000 gun laws on the books.

When will they understand that the 2nd amendment has nothing to do with hunting?

Someone should also point out to him that the Salt Lake City mall shooting was done with a shotgun JUST LIKE HIS SHOTGUN.

That maybe those ought to be banned too, hmmmmmm? Maybe they should take away his prized heirloom shotgun and melt it down because, you never know, someone could steal it and use it in another mall shooting! Or he could become domestically violent when he touches it! Think of the children!

I can't stand people like this.

This is the most incoherent piece of mumbo jumbo I've heard since Zumbo's terrorist rifle diatribe. Dick Chaney should take them both grizzly hunting.

Didn't the good guys in that have an M1 carbine?

And aren't those on the AWB II list? Which I'm sure he supports?

Ironic, if so. But typical for Hollywood. The same people who glorify irresponsible firearms use and handling then turn around and attack the people who actually treat guns with responsibility and respect.

The 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. I'm so tired of hearing this crap. "I'm a hunter, but..." "We don't want to limit your hunting guns, but..."

Oh I'm sure they do. That's why they keep trying to convince the rest of America that only hunting matters.

I'm a college student and after the VT shooting there was an uproar at my school over gun control. I did my best to defend the second amendment with a few others but I think my generation looks down upon firearms in general.

This is why it is absolutely IMPERATIVE that we introduce our children to this great sport of ours and go out of our way to expose those that don't know any better to the great thrills we enjoy by simply exercising that which is out 2nd Amendment. Start writing your Congressmen, flood the editorial pages of your newspapers, and aggressively defend our interest or we may not have an interest to defend as it's legislated away!

You mean you didn't burn it before this?

Just when I've been itching to buy the DVD of Dancing with Wolves he has to run his mouth. Think I'll pass now.
