Hornady TAP I Love It
I've been carrying Hydroshock in my 1911s for years. I tried the TAP in +p 230 grain, and I'm just speechless. They are just amazing.
First, accuracy, dead on. At fifteen yards, I had no problem with 1 inch groups (not benched). I love the black nickel finish, it comes off easy when scratched, so loading magazines takes a bit more time. It's just a cool look. I know it's supposed to feed more reliably, but the look factor is something else. The design of the bullet is also amazing. It tapers down and has a deep hollow point. The accuracy was the first seller for me, but the balistics also were impresive, with the 230 grain going 950 feet per second. I also like the low flash powder. Anyone else switched from Hydroshocks or another design to these rounds? |

I use TAP in my Glock 23...very accurate and they are a little cheaper then most of the other big boys. That black finish is cool isnt it.

When I had a P229 in 40 cal I feed it TAP exclusivly, it did not like WWB, threw it all over the paper but with TAP it showed the acuracy sig is famous for.
I have considered moving away from hydrashocks in 45 but just don't ever seem to work up the inertia to do so. |

LOL. Since when does how a round looks matter? I wouldn't care if it looked like a psychodelic cat **** as long as it performed well.
![]() I haven't tried the TAP loads, but Hornady does make some of the most consistantly accurate bullets I've used in handloading. I shoot their XTPs for accuracy but would never trust my life to them. I have never been able to get reliable expansion at the velocities that they're meant to be driven. Overdrive them by 100fps or more and they seem to do ok. I hope the TAP loads are using some other bullet besides the XTP. As for self defense loads, I prefer the Double Taps. They're getting 1010 fps from the 230 grain Gold Dot bullet, at NON +P pressures. They're optimized for shorter barrels also. For example, my 3.5 inch barrelled Bersa Mini-Firestorm chronoes in the 950 fps range with them. That the same as +P loads in a 5 inch barrel. |
