I just had a long conversation with Alice Tripp, lead lobbiest for the Texas State Rifle Association ( www.tsra.com ) about several issues, one of which is the upcoming anti-gun rally in Houston.

Texans, prepare yourself for the next state legislative session in January 2001. Alice said she is aware of 2 bills (these 2 are only the worst) that will:

1) only allow 1 gun purchase a month
2) ban gun shows

Hear that folks?

On top of that, the head of the committe that will review this bill (forget his name) said to Alice as he is grinning like a cat, "...my position on this bill will depend on the outcome of the November general election of course".

Meaning, if Gore wins he will SUPPORT these bills.

Alice Tripp also said that when the TSRA sends out email alerts about specific bills (which include all contacts, numbers, addresses, etc.) and the PEOPLE respond with letters and faxes, then we are a powerful force.

She said "TSRA cannot fabricate support or opposition to bills - the PEOPLE must do that."

Gun owners are being used as pilotical pawns today simply because we are a SMALL voting minority, meaning that there are very few who will vote strictly on this issue - too few to have an effect on an election, and they know it.

Those of you in Texas who are not TSRA members PLEASE join. AT the very least you can sigh up, for free, for their email alerts.

Those of you in Texas who do not at least participate in influencing these legislative sessions DO NOT DESERVE TO OWN FIREARMS and are simply riding on the coattails of those who are active.

Every one of you has time for a few simple faxes or letters. If you have time to browse TFL then you have time to send a simple 2 sentence letter during the next session.

Get ready for January - www.tsra.com

CMOS,

I agree with you 100%. I joined the TSRA last year and they are a great organization. BTW, I live in Beaumont and would love to protest the anti-gun march. Are you game?

CMOS,

I had thought about joining, but never got around to it. Your post was all I needed. Thanks. I'm now a member.

RockJock, we need all we can get at this anti-gun "meeting". Please see my thread: http://www.thefiringline.com:8080/fo...threadid=29207

Email "Chris" to get on our list. I will be emailing an outline of what messages we want to communicate.

I HATE odd-numbered years! For the info of non-Texans, our legislature only meets every OTHER year. That means that we can sleep safely in even numbered years knowing that our legislature is HOME, not trying to screw us.
