Winchester Model 61 Help
is there anyone who could send me/direct me to disassembly instructions for a Winchester Model 61 slide-action rifle? my main issue right now is the take down screw. it unscrews from the right side of the receiver, but when i try to pull it out from the left side, it gets stuck. is there a trick to it or might it be bent? i cant seem to figure it out and i know this rifle hasn't been apart in 20 years. also, is there any way of getting replacement screws for the slide? one is missing, and the other isnt original. if not does anyone know the treads?

Pardon me if I misunderstand, but the takedown screw is not supposed to come out all the way; it comes out only far enough to allow the buttstock and trigger group to be pulled back from the receiver. That keeps it from being lost.

thanks for the information. after reading that i applied some break free in all of the crack and after a few minute i was able to seperate the two halfs. i guess why were just stuck after two decades without dissadembly. thanks again!
does anyone have information on the screws? |

Try www.gunpartscorp.com for the action slide handle screws. The part number is 243660 and my old catalog shows $2.15 each. I suggest getting a couple of spares; they do tend to fly away.

Winchester 61 takedown
If you need assy/disassy instructions, I have the 14 page original Win manual, or a two pager from an old NRA book that I can scan and email you. Not the easiest gun I've ever worked on.

How close is the 61 to the 06? The reason I ask is I have an 06 with a problem and need some directions to take apart. The problem is the one of the pins that go to the machined groves inside of the receiver sides that stick out of the firing pin slide block are buggered. I need to get the gun apart to see how to repair. The gun has been in the family for 3 generations and I hopefully will be able to pass it down to the 5th. It is an Expert model in 1\2 nickel. |

Manual Please
George R. if you would send me the scanned copy of that gunsmith manual for the Winchester Model 61, I'd be glad to convert it to PDF and host the files for others who are looking for instructions on how to work on it. I'm trying to get my grandfather's apart right now.
Thanks, David |

Winchester Model 61 Adapter to mount optical sight
I've got an old Winchester Model 61. I'd like to try mounting an optical sight (red-dot sight) on in, but I'll need an adapter. Would anyone know where I can get the adapter?
