My congressturd mike castle is one of the three cosponsors.

IIRC he's an NRA B rated republican.

This should earn him an F. So if this passed I would have to remove the flash surpressor and Bayonette lug from my post 2004 normally configured AR-15 uppers for them to be legal.

What a load of utter nonsense.

I have written him a letter but it gets me his preprepared form letter on the subject and I already have 6 copies of it.

Screw Congress the Supreme Court and the whole lot of them. I take my stand here and now ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ! I refuse to be the victim of some stupid politicians and their own personal agendas. I'd rather spend the rest of my life in prison than bend to the will of these morons. You can take my guns from my cold dead fingers.

Well master blaster..
Your ar 15 has a barrel shroud to protect your non trigger hand from being burned and a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously from under the reciever, and a threaded barrel, that can accept a flash suppressor and a bayonet lug, so.. to keep your Ar-15 , you would have to remove the handguards, replace the barrel with a non flash arrestor model, and replace the gas block with a plain ole one, take off the pistol grip and throw away all of your magazines to be legal.
But, they have included single shot sharps rifles too , along with Rem 700s Mini 30, Anshutz , and lever action rifles too, so we are screwed. Be sure to look at the appendix . " Oh yeah we forgot to add these guns to the ban too, heheheheh" A$$monkeys!!!! Who the hell is this Senator Kirk anyhow??

If you will read it carefully again, you will see it says all the weapons listed in Appendix A will not be included in the ban.

Quote:
‘‘(3) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to—
‘‘(A) any of the firearms, or replicas or dupli
cates of the firearms, specified in appendix A to this
section, as such firearms were manufactured on Oc
tober 1, 1993;
Damn big of 'em

Went to college with Rep Kirk.
Two years in the same fraternity.
District he represents is the rich northern suburbs of Chicago.
I would characterize him as a "country club" Republican.
I won't get into any personal feelings about him.
The legislation is not surprising.

Oddly enough there is already a 10-year sunset clause in the legislation.

Actually You are wrong

Start reading at line 12. Its the 94 ban not the NEW one proposed by McCarthy etal.

Doesn't this crap come up again every year?

I'm not worried about it in '08. 2009, that's a whole different story.

IIRC if a ban makes it to Bush's desk he said he would sign it

My point is we should be worried now (not til '09) and kill it now since both bush and next CIC will sign a ban if it makes it to the desk.

This bill freaks me out, scares me for my country, and makes me sick. As long as the police or the infantry have it (what's the real difference these days anyways?), it is our right to have it as well. It's what protects us from wholesale corruption of power!

I have a hard time reading this mumbo jumbo, but, I think it says i can keep it if i had it upon enactment of the bill.

but his website says
"CHICAGO (WLS) -- More flights have been cleared to land at O'Hare Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration is lifting flight caps that have limited arrivals at the airport since 2004.

The weapons were banned in 1994 but that ban expired in 2004. Monday, Kirk joined local law enforcement leaders to push for new legislation that would get assault weapons off the streets.

Kirk says, without the ban, even police officers in full body armor are in danger.

"They can feel somewhat protected from a normal pistol, but against weapons like these body armor offers no significant protection for a police officer," said Rep. Mark Kirk, (R) Illinois.

The proposed legislation would make it illegal to manufacture, transfer or possess semi-automatic assault weapons and ammunition.

Opponents say the law will not cut down on the number of violent crimes. "

that little word "possess" is what bothers me

also on his page is a photo of him and Nancy Pelosi together. Man this guy has screwed himself politically

Castle was a completely useless jackass as gov of Delaware and it seems he's anxious to show parade his idiocy around Congress now. FWIW, even though he's a "republican", he's just an inch or two to the right of his buddy Joe Biden.

He probably let the states decide if they want it or not, which means a bunch of states that will and a bunch that won't. Of course McCain would also probably sign it too and Bush has already said he would sign it, but the later is no surprise. He signed in plenty of antigun laws over the past 8 years, especially early on. All it takes it attaching it to another bill and make it sound like you are cracking down on the criminals or the evil commie/islamic terrorist/gang members/christian militia terrorist group/current enemy of the week. The tactics have worked for both parties for decades.

Because Obama is such a staunch supporter of states rights. Give me a break, Hes a big government socialist. Not that McCain is much better....

Politically, he is in complete accordance with the district he represents. On the national scene, yes, he may be screwed. On the other hand, I don't think he cares about his national status. Kirk has always gone his own way, and often does not toe the line when it comes to the national party positions. He has his own group of representatives that he meets with regularly, and they work out positions that work for them, not for what the national party wants.
Some of that is to his credit. Sometimes not.
