Are you sure 22 is the caliber and not the barrel length?

Right now they have it out in .350 Rem Mag.

oh i see, the ones i looked at had a different stock.
the stock was thinner at the end and had a bar that went through the stock for your sling instead of having a stud. And the end of the stock was thinner on the butt and had Ruger engraved in it.

it looks like this, and every model that ive seen like this is 22
do you know if they have this gun in larger calibers as well???

That is the M77/22 or M77/17. They are only chambered in rimfire cartridges, and a variation (M77/22 Hornet) is available in .22 Hornet.

The 77/22 and 77/17 are not available in chamberings larger than .22 Hornet.

I own one in stainless, with the skinny stock, in 270. I plan on getting one in 22 Mag someday. A drawback with the metal sling loops is that I can't attach my Harris bipod to it.

yea see that was one of my worries, is that i wouldn't be able to put a bipod on it... well that sucks they don't make it in a larger caliber.
i was hoping to get one for my mountain lion hunts, my 30-06 is just ruining the hides. i was looking for something smaller than my 30-06 but bigger than a rim fire for sure. And it really is a fine looking weapon...
wait a second, isn't .270 a center fire???

Ruger discontinued that stock years ago I believe. I had one in 308 WIN. I sold it for a few reasons, it kicked like heck with the original recoil pad, the barreled action was too shiny, and I bought it cheap and sold it for a profit.

The two things I didn’t like about it could have been improved I just didn’t like enough to do so.

It did shoot well though. If I remember correctly right around 1.25" with factory ammunition.

Kind of wish I still had it now.

You would just have to look on the used market. Try the auction houses, gunsamerica.com, shows, shops and anywhere else you find used firearms.

Actually the MK-2 has been replaced by the new Hawkeye. It is essentially the same gun but with a slightly different finish and a new improved trigger. Check them out at www.ruger.com. Any gunshop should have them or be able to get one.

I had the M77 MKII in .30-06 just like the one Adventurer 2 posted. You can buy and install a sling mount that will allow fitment of a Harris bipod. The stock is strong enough to handle the mount in that area. These were by far some of the toughest synthetic stocks made for any bolt gun by anybody. The stainless was very shiny as I recall. Mine was bought used with only 6 rounds through it, a Timney trigger, and a super junky Tasco scope, all for $450. I NEVER should have sold that gun, but I did. I now have a new M77 MKII Hawkeye All Weather in .30-06. My first M77 and this one were and are plenty accurate. The LC6 trigger is crisp, but a little heavy. The new recoil pads are 100 percent better than the old ones were. They actually work. The old ones just left a design on your shoulder. You can still buy the old style synthetic stock through Brownells. I will be buying one because they are indestructible.

Amen to the recoil pad. After a session at the range in a t-shirt I would leave with a bruise that looked like a ladder. All of those little horizontal lines really showed in the bruise. Maybe I was just a sissy.

Fitting Harris Bypod

G'day. Kaizer & Adventurer 2.
I was a little surprised to find out that for the last 13 years my Harris bi-pod should not be on my Ruger.
I have the same as in the photo above. Before I fired my first shot, I did a little personalising of my own. Number one was to fit the bi-pod.
1, Fit lug in fore grip for attaching bi-pod.
2, Ensure barrel was fully floating.
3, Reduce trigger spring pressure.
4, Reduce trigger pull.
All these changes were very easy to achieve with virtually no extra cost. I had to purchase the Q/R lug, and the spring came from an old 'ball point pen'. You must take care when drilling the stock as it is similar to drilling brass & perspex. ( The drill will want to grab and pull itself through. ) This nearly caused me some dramas trying to drill a hole for a self locking nut that the lug screws into.
If you want more detals just ask and I will post them.

Yes J. Chappell, the ladder design bruise. I remember it well. The recoil pad was better suited for traction, not recoil absorbtion. I still like those stocks though. I will just have to fit a new pad when I buy the old style stock, for a spare or something.

I replaced the sling swivels on mine, and that was another issue I had, I did not like the recessed area and holes in the stock that are used for those darn sling swivels.

If I had another one I'd probably have it blasted to get rid of that darn shine.

My MKII is dusky in the recess where 'Ruger' & logo is also, same as the rig with the dingo pic. I guess they just get that way. I've never worried about it, though. My 7mm rem mag is a scratched up work horse that's supplied my freezer for going on 15 years. Abuse and neglect, year-over-year, doesn't seem to bother them. I'm going to check zero and burn a box tomorrow, then abuse it again in two weeks, this time in the Rockies when I take the fight to those commie elk.

G'day, the legs fold around the sling. It has not bothered me, may be I just got used to it. I put it on that way to see how it would go. I can always change the front to a Q/R and attach it to the bi-pod. It might be that I just don't use the thing enough.

G'day. I had just spent about 2 hours sighting and doing a bit of practice. I had finished the target shooting and was walking around (without the gun) cleaning up all my targets/rubbish when this pup came to have a look at what has going on. I was about half way between him and the Ute/rifle when I saw him so I just walked back to the gun, loaded it then took up my position on the Ute to take the shot. To my surprise he was still in the same spot, but I had 1 big problem. Because of where I was set up I had to take the shot left handed. By the time I was ready he decided to start moving. I am not a lefty and don't practice that way. He was about 80 meters.

Wow. My hat's off to anyone who can shoot from their off side. I tried it and nothing worked. My eyes crossed. I tried to pump the action at the butt. I couldn't find the trigger on the fore stock. I can pat my head and rub my stomach but forget shooting from the off side. I'm a hard wired right hander and I'd be ruined if I lost my right eye.

Nice shooting! That dingo won't be stealing anyone's baby.
