I keep a S&W 5904 under the downstairs bathroom sink. It has a shower in it, and with the steam, I'm constantly oiling the gun, so it does not rust.

Any suggestions to prevent rusting?

-forrest

I keep one there incase I hear a window break while I'm in the bathroom.

Try http://www.milcomm.com

the 1.5oz. tube of TW25B should do the trick.

...as used by Navy SEALs etc, etc....

Easy.

Send your gun to Robar for their NP3 coating. No oil, no rust.
Worth EVERY penny (or C-note. Whatever.)

You might try and store it in a zip lock plastic bag. They are easy and quiet to open and should offer some protection against the humidity from the shower.

I second the Robar recoommendation. Don't put the gun in anything as if you need it in a hurry, you won't want to wait to get at it. Could also find one of them hidden wall-boxes and put a rubber seal around it. Add a small light bulb to keep it warm and you're set.

Rubbermaid container with a couple of mothballs in it. Punch a VERY small hole in the lid. As the mothballs sublimate, they drive any moist air out through the hole.

As someone else mentioned, Ziplock baggy. Again, use a mothball or two as extra precaution.

For a gun prone to rust, properly lube the gun and then place it in a plastic (or other non-rusting) airtight container with a silica gel pack inside. Brownells may still sell silica gel packs in small, perforated aluminum cases with a built-in indicator. Check the indicator from time to time and refresh the pack as needed. A couple of Brownells Rust-Blox in the container wouldn't hurt either.

For a Glock, a Bore-Stores pouch may be enough protection. I'd keep it where air can circulate some.

YMMV.

Wow, I heard hard chrome is very resistant to rusting. Who did your hard chroming?

Do not take showers or baths.
Really, an idea just came to me. You know those hand warmers that work by oxidixing iron? Well I figure if you put a gun in an air tight container, activate a hand/foot warmer and put it in the container, then all of the O2 should be used oxidizing the Fe in the hand warmer and therefore no O2 is left to oxidize your gun. What do ya'll think about that?

Either get a Glock, which won't rust, or stop peeing on your pistol.

Keep it in a Bianchi Blue bag. This will protect it from rust and leave it fast to use.

Ask a pharmacy to save you the disicant capsules they get in the pill shipments. If they ask what you want them for tell them for storing your grandfathers pocketwatch or drying flowers.

Then toss a few in with your gun when you seal up the zip lock bag.

The handwarmer thing might work, but they also contain salt so they may actually worsen corrosion.

Accurate Plating & Weaponry ( http://www.apwcogan.com )(Thank you, Bob Cogan) did my gun, and if I get another gun hard-chromed it will go only to him.

All my guns (except my 1911) rust; the stainless Ruger wheels (I have six), the guns in the Blue Bags, and the 'chromed one.
(I should explain that I keep my guns in my shop, where I maintain high humidity due to the primers. You know, primers WILL explode.)

So off to Robar went my 1911 (Caspian, of course) for their awesome NP3, an electroless nickel impregnated with Teflon. No rust, no oil, comes out of the holster smoother and faster, and did I mention no rust?

I should also mention its color is now silvery; I don't give a rat's a$$ about color, but some folks might. I figure it makes it easier for the bad guys to see.....

I favor the zip lock bag for the bathroom gun.

Moth balls? Why moth balls and not silica gel?
