We were skeptical about this at first, but now we've seen a copy of the letter from Prudential. We are aware of several Gunsafe members whose home and gun collection are insured by Nationwide - no problem.

Hi Bob,
Attached to this email [below], you will find a notice from Prudential Insurance
notifying a friend of mine (Frank) a local police officer, that his policy
was not being renewed.

He called Prudential to inquire if they insure personal firearms, to which
they answered "yes".

Well you can see the results of what happened when he sent them the list of
guns he wanted to insure. When he called them to follow up to the letter,
they stated that not only did he have too many guns, but he had a "red flag"
gun, that being a Mossberg 500. Apparently, they will not insure ANYONE
owning a Mossberg 500, they could not give him a reason why. As a matter of
fact, the woman he spoke to on the phone told him "I don't even know what a
Mossberg 500 is".

They also would not give him a number as to how many they deemed "excessive",
but told him that they would "gladly insure him if he would relinquish his
firearms collection", I doubt I need to tell you his verbal response back to
them.

I wanted you and all the rest of the coalition members to view this letter
first hand as to validify Prudentials discriminate policy. I have removed
his name and address from the document, but left it untouched otherwise.

I have already directed Frank to my insurance agent who specializes in
insuring not only the firearms industry, but also private owners wishing to
insure their legally owned guns.

Obviously I would boycott Prudential, but also send letters or emails to let
them know we as law abiding gun owners will not spend our hard earned dollars
with companies who blatantly and illegally discriminate against our way of
life.

I found this page to send email and comments:

Please forward this info including the attachments to anyone you feel may
find it useful. Thanks.

Notice of Cancellation

Cancellation Date: 01/19/2001 at 12:01 A.M.
Original Effective Date: 11/28/2000

Dear Mr. and Ms. -----

Thank you for your recent application for Homeowner Insurance. Unfortunately, we cannot issue you a policy. Please allow me to
explain.

We consider many factors when determining whether or not an individual is eligible for insurance. While reviewing your application,
I noted the following circumstance(s).
There is a measurable increase in liability exposure based an the types and number of guns that you own.

We will, however, provide temporary Coverage until 01/19/2001 at 12:01 A.M.. Since we are providing coverage only for a limited
time, we will send you a refund. The amount of your refund is your premium payment, minus that portion necessary to pay for the
temporary coverage. You will receive your refund shortly.

Although you are not currently eligible for coverage with our Company, we urge you to apply for other insurance immediately. You
may be eligible for insurance through the Connecticut Insurance Placement Facility. Any licensed agent ran give you details.

Of course, we will protect your rights to the personal information we have in our policy files. Enclosed are procedures for you to
follow if you would like to review this information.

Thank you for considering Prudential. I regret any inconvenience this decision may cause you.

If you have any questions about this decision, please call your Prudential representative. If you prefer, you may contact one of our
Prudential Service specialists at (800) 437-5556

Sincerely,

/s/ Dennis H. Brookover

Prudential is not unique. Liberty Mutual and a couple of others do the same. They even gave me a hassle at one insurance company about the kind of dog we own. He is a Doberman/Lab mix. They don't insure homes with "at risk" dogs. I.e., Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Dobermans, Pit Bulls and some labs. Our saleswoman/rep knows us well and our dog, so she overlooked the issue and were approved.

I don't understand the mossberg 500 issue. I have a hunting version and it is the best shotgun for the price without getting into the over/unders or fancier shotguns. Why is it on some kind of hit list?

Farmers was willing to insure all of mine. At a high price of course.

What a bunch of bulls*&t! I get so mad with insurance companies. The ARE allowed to get away with murder. Rape me of my money, tell me its for my own good, and then give me the middle finger when I need them most.

If it wasnt for the fact that I require insurance, I wouldnt give any of these SOBs my money!

Sorry, insurance companies are a sore spot with me..those bastards!

Has anyone ever had any trouble with Nationwide?
