Beretta Compact

I've been looking at the Beretta Compact. Didn't Beretta make the compact before? What was the magazine capacity? Any sources for these post ban mags?

The 9mm magazines hold 13 rounds I think.

Beretta has made two types of compacts in the past: the 92SB-C and the Type M. They had identical slides but the Type M was single stack with 8 rounds while the 92SB-C used a 13 round mag.

The 13 round mags are still available, if you know where to look.

I have a 13 round mag i'll sell you if you decide to buy one. It came with my 92f and will not work it in. The mag is new and unused.

beretta makes several compacts. that depends what you're talking about. i think you're talking about the 92 series one that has a 13rd mag. the older model of them was called the 92SB Compact and now its called the 92 Compact L. the Compact L holds 13rds and is slightly shorter in length and height than the 92FS. the 92 Compact L Type M (or just Type M) is the same as the Compact L but has a single stack 8rd mag and is a bit thinner.

the Custom Carry is a variation on the Compact L. the Custom Carry 2 is a variation on the Type M.

the Compact L and Custom Carry will accept either the pre-ban 13rd mags that will fit flush in the gun or 92FS 15rd mags that will hang out a bit since they are just a bit longer.

the 12rd mags made for the 9000S are for LEO's and military use only. since the 9000S was made after 1994 there are only post-ban mags and therefore it is impossible to get any 12rd mags. however the 9000S will also accept 15rd mags from the 92FS but they will hang out the bottom as well.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was refering to the 9mm. Does anyone have an opinion of the Compact? Is there any significance in the difference in the Compact over the full size 92?

I have a 92F Compact that was made in 1988. Although its barrel and grip are both shorter than the full-size 92, its magazine (13 round) has a prominent finger-rest floorplate. Due to this floorplate, I'm not sure that the Compact is much more concealable than the regular 92--if concealability is an important consideration.

Anyway, IMHO the 92F Compact is a well-made, very comfortable pistol that shares the reliability of the larger 92.

BTW, I used to have a 92 SB Compact Type M, whose polished blue finish and overall high quality made it something of a gem (wish I still had it). Interestingly, although the Type M grip is slimmer, the overall thickness of the pistol is unchanged due to the slide.
