Concealed Carry Bill Sent to House Sub-Committee

Sending Rep. Franklin's bill to a sub-committee is bad news for concealed carry permit holders. You see, the chairman of a sub-committee does not have to hold a hearing on a bill or bring it up for a vote -- unless he wants to or is persuaded to. That's why I need you to call your State Representative immediately (see roster at the end of this message) and tell him or her to ask the Sub-committee Chairman, Representative Curtis Jenkins (D - Forsyth), to use his leadership position to advance H.B. 304 and vote to report the bill to the House floor for passage, without any amendments that water down or weaken the bill. And if Rep. Jenkins is your State Representative, please contact him immediately via e-mail at cjenkins@legis.state.ga.us or by phone at 404-656-7857 during the week and 912-994-3488 over the weekend. Tell Rep. Jenkins to vote to report H.B. 304 to the House floor for passage, without any amendments that water down or weaken the bill. Under current law, honest, law-abiding concealed permit holders cannot carry concealed at a "public gathering," i.e., sporting events, churches, public buildings or restaurants that serve alcoholic beverages. This renders countless Georgians completely defenseless while they are out with their family, at church, a ball game, eating a meal or going to and from their car at their favorite steak house or pizzeria. H.B. 304 would simply restore the right of self-defense to honest, law-abiding concealed carry permit holders and eliminate these No Safety Zones where criminals commit their offenses against citizens left completely defenseless under the current law. It's critical that you call your State Representative today and ask him or her to urge Rep. Jenkins to bring H.B. 304 before the Sub-Committee and to report the bill to the House floor for passage, without any amendments that water down or weaken the bill. Rep. Jenkins must decide if he wants to stand with you and other law-abiding gun owners or do the bidding of the liberal gun grabbers. Please call your State Representative at once. I've got a friend who monitors that committee for a Fulton County Republican political group. I'm going to tag along with him on Tuesday down to the Gold Dome. I'll report back with what I learn.
