Attention Maine Gun Owners:

MAYDAY! --- MAYDAY! --- MAYDAY!

LD 464: An Act to Require a License to Sell Firearms

Will make ordinary citizens like you a FELON for selling or
attempting to sell your hunting rifle at the spring Bangor Gun Show.
Even selling that rifle through an ad in Uncle Henry's or similar
publications will make you a FELON under the draconian act. Under
this misguided piece of legislative manure EVERY Mainer selling a
gun to other than an immediate family member will be required to
submit to the extensive licensing and federal regulations of FFL's.
Just imagine, you sell a gun to your neighbor and YOU must jump
through mounds of federal paperwork to become a full-fledged FFL.

This thinly veiled "Brady instant check registration scheme" is in
reality a direct assault on the rights of gun owners, designed to
shut down the gun shows where citizen gun owners come together.
Under this bill threats of lawsuits and federal intimidation of gun
shows will be used to kill off Maine's gun show heritage that the
anti-gunners view as a political threat. This bill seeks to make
every gun sale that is not conducted through the "Brady instant
check registration scheme" a FELONY. Under this bill the proponents
seek to REGISTER both the firearm and the citizen. Make no mistake
about it, they want to register you, the gun owners of Maine -- so
they can later disarm you just like they are doing over the border
in Canada!

As terrible as the news is, it gets worse when you find
representatives like G. DAVIS of Falmouth signing onto this gun
owner registration act. And you can be certain the sponsors of
LD 464 want to not only register guns, but gun owners -- by having
the State of Maine volunteer to coerce you, a citizen of Maine, to
join the ranks of the federally regulated firearms dealers.

Your attendance, calls, faxes, and e-mails are urgently needed to
get the word out of the upcoming PUBLIC HEARING on this GUN OWNER
REGISTRATION NIGHTMARE: Friday February 23 at 9:30 in Room 211 of
the Cross State Office Building. Be there -- or risk being a felon
the next time you buy or sell a firearm at a gun show! The
anti-gunners have declared war on your culture and heritage of
camaraderie at gun shows. It's now your turn to respond.

Please contact your state Representative, the members of the
Criminal Justice Committee, and particularly representative DAVIS.
Tell them you see through this gun owner registration scheme as a
preview of CANADIAN style confiscation of firearms. Demand that
Representative Davis withdraw from the bill and denounce it for what
it is! Here is what I need you to do:

* Identify your district from the roster below.

* Start sending in those faxes, e-mails and phone calls. (You can
find the contact info.)

* SPREAD THE WORD. A lot of folks won't get this letter since they
don't have fax or e-mail. Please pass this alert to your
pro-gun family and friends and urge them to act.

* Don't let your rights fall prey to closet anti-gunners and
political operators with another agenda -- take time to write
and call. Let the politicians in Augusta know you are watching
and waiting for them to stand up for your rights.

Please contact your legislator(s) immediately and ask them to work
to kill LD 464.

Call and leave voice messages in Augusta: (House) 800-423-2900
(Senate) 800-423-6900.

The main switchboard is (207) 287-1400. The main fax line is
(207) 287-4469.

----- Pre-written message -----

Please Deliver.

The Honorable ___________________________

Dear Representative _______________________________,

As a law-abiding gun owner of Maine, I urge you to defeat LD 464,
the Gun Owner & Firearm Registration Act. This bill is nothing but a
thinly veiled attempt to bring CANADIAN gun registration as a
prelude to confiscation using the Brady instant check registration
scheme.

Gun Owners of America will keep informed on the outcome of this
anti-citizen attempt to bring the "Brady instant check registration
scheme" to the free state of Maine.

Sincerely,

________________________
