GrassRoots Officers and Staff have been very, very busy since our last
newsletter and E-mail update. Here are a few of the many things that have been
keeping us busy:

Typically we have our annual membership drive during the Fall of each year.
However, last fall we chose to distribute GrassRoots newsletters via gun shops.
We followed that with a mailing to a popular gun magazine mailing list to
introduce South Carolinians to GrassRoots. This pushed our normal membership
mailing to CWP holders in South Carolina into the new year. Well, we're now in
full swing following mailings of GrassRoots introductory flyers to 27,000 CWP
holders in South Carolina! New memberships are now coming in and we're getting
new members up to speed with mailings of new membership packages, newsletters,
and invitations to join us Online. WELCOME NEW MEMBERS!

BTW: If you received a GrassRoots flyer in the mail and are wondering why,
since you're already a member, here's the scoop: The database we obtain the
CWP list from is significantly different than our membership list.
Unfortunately, we can not cull duplicates from the list to prevent mailing to
our own members. Help us fix this problem by taking your membership flyer and
giving it to a friend and encouraging them to join GrassRoots. Recycle!

If you're a member of GrassRoots you recently received a Postal Direct Mail
piece concerning Charlie Condon. The piece explained how the GrassRoots
analysis of our CWP law did not prohibit carry in restaurants. SLED has
requested an AG opinion in this matter and GrassRoots wants AG Condon to do the
right thing. In this direct mail we provided postcards for you to send in to AG
Condon.

We were told that approximately 500 GrassRoots members sent in their postcards.
Hooray for these GrassRoots GunRights Gorillas! If you were one of the 80% of
GrassRoots members that didn't send their cards to AG Condon please do so now.

Following this Direct Mail piece we realized that we still had 20,000
Membership Drive Flyers to send out. Hmmmmmm, what if...? Yep, you guessed it.
Why not slip the AG Condon information in those as well? So, to make a long
story short, we did it! The postage was the same - the additional costs of
printing 20,000 postcards was well within our ability due to the generous
nature of our members who responded with gift donations encouraging us to
continue using Direct Mail to send out more frequent notices and updates. How
many has Charlie Condon received? We don't know yet, but the thought of all
those little green postcards letting AG Condon know that gun owners in South
Carolina are now united as a voting block puts a smile on our faces. We hope
you are smiling too!

BTW: If you received what appeared to be a second AG Condon mailing look at it
carefully. It was most likely a membership drive mailing - share it with a
friend, recruit a new member!

Busy! Busy! Busy!

We are processing hundreds of new memberships as a first priority, as well as
printing and sending renewal notices, processing renewals from current members,
inquiries, etc. Because of this it may take a couple of weeks for us to respond
to any written inquiry right now. This will improve as we get through the
membership drive rush. If your membership renewal, and our renewal notice cross
in the mail please understand. We are currently working on approximately a two
week delay in processing mail.

next local gun show. Admission is free for those that work our tables, you get
to fellowship with like minded friends, shop the gun show after your shift, and
it beats trimming the hedges at home! E-mail Terry and get on his contact list!

The legislature is in session. GrassRoots members can expect to start receiving
E-mail updates and alerts requiring your input with regard to pro-gun and
anti-gun bills in the legislature. Please act on these alerts. These aren't
some sort of fundraising disguised as a bogus poll with a request for
donations. These are serious alerts.

This brings up a question. How does GrassRoots work?

We don't take your membership dues and have a breakfast with legislators. WE
WON'T DO THAT!
We don't contribute to legislator's election funds. WE WON'T DO THAT!
We don't pay a high priced person to lobby for your gun rights. WE WON'T DO
THAT!
We don't play "back slap" with legislators and work "behind the scenes." WE
WON'T DO THAT!
We don't assume we know what you want, get a law passed, and then tell you. WE
WON'T DO THAT!

We DO meet with legislators and play hardball.
We DO tell them what you've told us regarding bills and current laws.
We DO tell them, "We will remember in November."
We Do tell them to "Do the right thing by gun owners and CWP holders."

BUT,
It don't mean squat if they think we're half a dozen old men wanting to bend
their ears for nothing. HOWEVER, if they know we speak for thousands of gun
owners in South Carolina, they actually want to listen because they know we'll
be reporting their actions to our members. They know we'll be keeping our
members up to date on their actions. They'll know gun owners are united and
will vote united.

Here's the punch line:
They have to KNOW we represent THOUSANDS of South Carolina gun owners. You have
to act on our alerts and fax, call, and E-mail them. Otherwise they'll brush us
off like spilled gun powder. They don't know we're not just a few unless you do
your part. We are a "grassroots" organization. The power comes from our numbers
- not our bank account. Please, we'll keep the numbers of requests on you to a
minimum, but when we need your voice we need to have you at full volume!

If you haven't participated in our most recent request to contact Senators
regarding the GrassRoots CWP reform bill currently in the SC Senate please do
so now. The sub committee meets Thursday, we'll be there, and we need them to
be "ever so receptive" to our suggestions. Use the auto-mailer at:

Look for another GrassRoots Direct Mail in your postal mailbox later this week.
This is a very important direct mail for our members that have CWPs. This
mailing will make it easy for you to contact the SC Representatives and
Senators in your county requesting them to sign on to the GrassRoots CWP Reform
Bills. If you want to change our CWP law to make it better act on this mailing
as soon as you get it. Don't delay and don't complain about current CWP
restrictions if you don't act! You are GrassRoots - you'll have to lick a few
stamps at the minimum (we'll tell you how to do more) if you want the
legislators to support CWP reform and improve your current CWP law.

What can I say other than, "DO IT GORILLAS!"

Also, in this week's direct mail we'll describe how we have already been
successful this year in changing some bills that contained wording that could
harm South Carolina gun owners. Enjoy reading how you're making this happen in
