You may remember these folks from last year. The local idiot Democrats whined about the raffle, which only generated increased sales. Let's hope they haven't learned.
From a post at FreeRepublic Source: Vice-Chairman of Carroll County Republican Central Committee This morning at the annual legislative breakfast, Helen Roop, the winner of the First Annual Gun Raffle held by the Carroll County Republican Central Committee, purchased ticket number one of the Second Annual Gun Raffle. W. David Blair, Vice-Chairman, made the announcement following the annual breakfast meeting with the Carroll County delegation. This year the event was changed to increase the number of prizes to two firearms, one a shotgun and the other a pistol. The committee decided to add a shotgun for those who enjoy hunting and target shooting. The other prize is the new Beretta Model 9000 9mm Pistol. This is a new release by Beretta. Both firearms come equipped with gunlocks so that the anti-gunners can feel safe. Tickets are five dollars and individuals are limited to purchasing ten tickets. Only 5000 tickets have been printed. When they are gone, there will be no more. You must be 21 to purchase a ticket and will be required to pass all federal and state regulations. Winners will be responsible for all application fees. The drawing will be held on July 4, 2001 at the VFW Post 467 Pavilion at 8 AM. There will be a short presentation before the two winning tickets are drawn. All eligible parties can obtain tickets by writing to: Carroll County Republican Central Committee, P.O. Box 2108, Westminster, MD 21158. For tickets to be eligible for the drawing, your name, address, and phone number are required. Inclusion of your e-mail address is optional. We have been asked why we are doing this. First, is to raise money for the next election. Second, is to push the buttons of every law-abiding citizen who hears about this raffle and believes in the Second Amendment. The Republican Party believes in the principle of personal accountability. It is the individual who must be held accountable for unacceptable actions. It is not the fault of an inanimate object. It is time we as a society begin to address the real problems of why our young people need to react in such a violent manner. We need discipline in the schools not zero tolerance. WE need parents when pay more attention to their children then how many cars or how big a house they have. Freedom is like life. When you lose it, you can never get it back. So we are asking you to join us in making this a successful raffle so that on the day we celebrate our independence, we can celebrate the fact that the Second Amendment is alive and well. This raffle is open to Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and anyone who believes in the rights guaranteed to us under the Bill of Rights. |

Oatka,
Thanks for the info. That's a great idea and I think I may use it. At the beginning of this month I was elected as Vice Chairman of the Carroll County Republican Party here in Georgia and I've been keeping my eyes open for good ideas. We could do something like that also. Joe |

According to an article in the Washington Times today, the Carroll county Republican party raised something like $15,000 last year on their raffle. This far exceeded their expectations. I think that was a raffle for a handgun only.
Apparently, they had quite a few out-of-staters buying tickets. Also, one of the whiners was Ellen Saurerbrey, who ran as a Republican candidate for Governor of Maryland. Turkey. No wonder she lost. However, it was a very close election. |

Joe Klug - With tongue just slightly in cheek, leak the raffle information to any local antis. It would be great if you had a mole in MMM for instance, who would be "outraged that an evil gun" was put up as a prize.
EVERY time the antis squealed, it generated publicity and additional donors. These ancient TFL links provide an excellent background: http://thefiringline.com/forums/show...threadid=33088 - last year's Maryland raffle and http://thefiringline.com/forums/show...threadid=32876 First alert - Hobgood Academy in N.C. http://thefiringline.com/forums/show...threadid=33335 - And the result of the whining I worked in Georgia (Macon) for five years and with all the gun interest there, I can almost guarantee a success in that raffle. -- To the sysadmin - these searches took less than 3 seconds - Thanks for the upgrade! |

Oatka,
I agree. Some ranting in the editorial pages of the local liberal newspaper would be great free publicity. Most of Georgia (outside of downtown Atlanta) is very pro-gun, especially the folks out here in west Georgia.Joe |
