I know we've covered this a bunch, and poor AlanD got bumped at work in another post, but I gotta share this one with you guys and gals...

My mother-in-law's birthday was Saturday, so we all went out to dinner. We were standing outside the restaurant waiting to be seated when my Sis&Bro-inlaws pulled up with their kids, including my Nephew Koty. Koty's a big 6yr old who has PROFOUND ADHD and is smart as a tack. He got out of the truck, and comes over to me for a hug. He immediately reaches to put his hand in my left front pocket... I caught his hand before it got there, because that's where I keep my Kel-Tec P32 in an Uncle Mike's #1. I asked, half laughingly "what are you doing boy?" He smiled and answered "you got a gun in there and I want to see it!" Of course, people heard him, and looked at me, and all I could say was "no I don't, you're silly". Later, I pulled an "oops, forgot my wallet" and went back to the truck, removed my pistol in such a way that you really can't tell if it's a wallet or what, locked it in the glove compartment, and put my real wallet in my front pocket. I went back over to the group and waited for the waitress to come by, ordered a drink, and reached in my front pocket to produce my wallet. Lots of relief in the faces of the other folks around us when I did that.

I know you're thinking that he should be taught better, but he's so hyper, and constantly blurts out things without thinking, so I doubt it will do much good. His parents do own one gun, but they keep it locked up and WAY out of reach. It's only good to them if they have advanced warning, but we all know there's NO other way to have a firearm around Koty.

Sounds like you handled the situation as well as you could. I'm amazed he could ID the gun by feel so quickly. Or did he already know that's how you carry?

sounds like you handled it very well, however the parents didn't. sounds to me like a case for better parenting. <they didn't have these catchy little acronyms when i was growing up, which wasn't all that long ago.>

What're ya gonna do? You're not allowed to beat 'em any more, so you do the best you can.
