FYI-MMM No.Va

From: Million Mom March No.Va Database [mailto:mmmnovadb@yahoo.com]

Subject: July meeting

What: Million Mom March General Meeting:

When: Thursday, July 19, 7 p.m.

Where: St. Charles Church, 3304 Washington Blvd, Arlington, VA (Upper room)

Information: The MMM Northern Virginia Chapter will hold the first of several educational meetings on Thursday, July 19. Jim Kessler, Policy and Research Director, for Americans for Gun Safety, will give an overview of current legislation on gun safety before the U.S. Congress and will also provide attendees with lots of information on gun safety, gun laws, gun loopholes, and other topics that are becoming all too commonplace in America today.

Jim worked as the legislative and policy director for Senator Charles Schumer (NY) for 12 years before joining Americans for Gun Safety when the group was formed last summer. He will talk about gun issues in a way that all of us can understand and communicate with others.

We've also asked Jim to lead us in some role playing discussions that explore some of the myths and mis-information that anti-gun safety advocates often try to use in conversation. (Don't worry, you won't be asked to role play unless you want to)

This will be the first of several educational meetings. Others will include an overview of "How a bill becomes a law" in both the halls of Congress and the halls of the Virginia General Assembly.

Each MMM member who attends these meetings will receive their own "MMM NOVA" binder that can be kept as a resource in the future.

Stay smart, keep current, know what to say and how to say it.

I'm repeating this from the TFL thread http://thefiringline.com/forums/sho...&threadid=71641

Make up flyers to hand out that have the Washington Post article http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...-2001Jun26.html on Barbara Graham. Highlight the paragraph that states:
Quote:
Still, Graham had her supporters. Throughout her trial, she was backed by the leader of Mothers on the Move Spiritually, a Prince George's County group that helped organize the Million Mom March against gun violence in May 2000.

In another one of the case's ironies, Graham had become active in the group after her 19-year-old son, Le'Pierre Clemons, was killed -- and before she was arrested in her Capitol Heights home with two guns in her bedside table.
Also the article from the San Francisco Examiner on how the MMM used the SFGH http://www.sfexaminer.com/news/defa...ory=n.mom.0412w and were subsequently thrown out.

Go about yelling like a newspaper hawker "EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! MILLION MOM MARCH MOTHER SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS TO LIFE FOR VIGILANTE SHOOTING! READ ALL ABOUT IT!" while holding the article aloft. Give one to anyone who wants one and I'm sure the Mindless Meandering Minions will definitely want a few.

If they deny that she was a member, hit them with another handout of the other Washington Post story at: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...-2001Jan23.html and highlight the paragraphs that state:
Quote:
In the months after her son's death, Graham became active in Mothers on the Move Spiritually, a Prince George's County group that helped organize the Million Mom March last year against gun violence. Graham spoke out at the march and helped memorialize the dead.

Two months later, she was arrested in the shooting of Smith. Upon her arrest, police seized two guns from her nightstand and two more from elsewhere in her house.

Still, the women from Million Moms are backing her at her trial. The group's president, Bernadette Trowell, has come to court to show her support, even though Trowell cannot sit in the courtroom because she may be called as a witness.
That'll get their goat.

Educational eh? Didn't the SS/SA have 'educational' meetings too? What about Stalin. I think it was called the "people's party congress'
