What does your buddy carry?

Has anyone here ever factored in a gun purchase because a close friend shoots the same model, or one that is chambered in the same cartridge?

Example: The friend that you always go hunting with hunts with a 300 Win Mag. Would this influence your decision of wether or not to get a 300 Win Mag hunting rifle because you two could share ammo in the field?

Example: You and a friend do a lot of out of town travelling. He (or she) carries a Glock 23. You chose to get/carry a Beretta 96 because you could exchange ammo (40S&W) if you get in a gunfight along the way.

Example: Although you love your Mini 14, you purchased an AK so you and your friend could exchange loaded mags if the S ever hit the F.

Many of us buy stuff based on purely range performance, but I think the above are a darn good thing to consider, depending on what kinds of friends you have. What are your thoughts?

Well, let's see...
I didn't get an AMT back up 380 after shooting one my buddy has. Hurt to shoot, heavy trigger, difficult to keep steady and, in my book, POS.
I didn't use a local gunsmith after seeing the abortion he performed on a buddy's 1911.
Did get a S&W 357 after shooting several.
Bought more HK's after seeing how consistent their quality truly is.

Nope, what my friends carry (those who actually do carry) has absolutely no bearing on what I carry/purchase.

Often, thought, it's my friends who take cues off of me on what to try/purchase for CCW.

Just by accident....

Me and all my friends carry a .45 1911 type, and we can all exchange magazines.

I am the shooter that many of my friends come to for ideas and advise about firearms purchases.

Meiji...

That's only because you love knowing that my magazine will fit in your handgun.

Nope....I don't have any buddies close to me that carry. I think it's cause they are skeered!

I have bought a pistol before when looking with my dad. Back in 93 he purchased a Bulgie Mak and I purchased a stainless commercial Russian Mak the same day. He still has his and like an idiot...I sold mine.

Other than that...each to his own. Even when my Dad and I travel somewhere together more than likely we are carrying different types of weapons.

I don't have any buddies, but

My friend Capbuster can be found carrying a variety of weapons; but I guess his personal
favorite would have to be his Browning Hi-Power.

Heck no! If I did that, what would we have to argue about? He has a shorty-forty and a 380 Beretta while I seem to have a life long love affair with Colt 1911's, both standard size and the officers model. I have worked on him for 10 years to get him into reloading, and have created a monster, which serves him right! No sense in being addicted by myself!

With the exception of a young man who has yet to see the light, and carries a Glock, we all carry 1911 styled .45's.

One of these days he'll see the light!

I would have to change my name!

Never Pyle.... never. I wouldn't ditch the Glock if you GAVE me the 1911. Sure I would take the 1911, but I'd still carry the Glock. Maybe I'd just sell it and buy a couple more Glocks! Seriously, that's why I carry 2 extra magazines for my Glock 23. I don't have to ask for magazines from anybody. If I can't fight my way back to my Ak in 30 rounds I'm dead meat.

Nope. To each his own. I figure everybody should carry what they can use with skill.

And if the s hit the f as you say, like in a Y2K horror scenario, I figured on scavenging off the dead. Their ammo should fit their guns.

While, coincidentally, my packing fraternity brothers and I all carry .40's, if the S ever hit the F to the point that any of us were out of ammo, we'd all probably be in way over our heads.

We mostly all carry 1911s of different sizes and makes.

However, with regards to other (more formidable) weapons, they can use what I loan them. So, I buy what I want and keep my friends trained on them. If the defecation ever hit the ventilation, they know where to come pick up their weapons-kits.

One friend who's an LEO and firearms instructor carries an HK USP 45 on duty, by choice. That, in addition to the fact that I shoot best with it, influenced me to buy my USP.

Another friend that carries a Glock 30 encouraged my switch from 9mm to 45. My other good friend that carries has a 1911.

At least we're all using the same caliber...

Either a MAK-90 load with Wolf FMJ's, or a NEF 10ga load with Win Mag 1.75oz Steel BB Shot. Either way he is more than well armed.

That 10ga can get rough after 10rounds rapid fire OUCH!!!

From the standpoint of ammo and reloading? Sure. "Hmmm... Dad and Doug both shoot '06's for deer season, so I might as well get this Springfield, as we can reload for each other...."

But from the standpoint of actual guns, we tend to buy different kinds of guns in the same way that you check at the Chinese restaurant to make sure that you're not ordering the exact same dish as your date. After all, you know you're going to share, and want to keep some variety "in the family."
