Funny Episode With Canadians
I had an amusing gun-related incident with a group of Canadian nationals the other day. I've been scouting out a creek in the Chugach (SC Alaska) in my spare time for possible places for a bear hunting blind. The restrictions are pretty good for residents, esp. considering how close the area is to town. To get to the area, I have to park in a little space right off the highway. I then have to cross the road and bushwhack a ways back to get to the bear trails. On return from my last trip, I came back out of the woods to see my car totally blocked in by three RV's.
I came up out of the drainage ditch, crossed the road and approached the group, who were clustered around the lead RV with a map. I said "hello," and mentioned that they had blocked me in, in a very friendly voice. I was about to see if I could give directions, but the horrified group saw the Mauser stock sticking out of my backpack and *ran* back to their RVs, leaving as fast as they could! I had to wonder if they really thought I was going to shoot them or something. Then I noticed the BC plates as the pulled out, and all was clear.

Why am I not surprised. The fedgov has done such a fine job here in The Peoples Republic of Kanada of demonizing guns and gun owners most city types who see anyone other than goose steppers with guns must be radical/whitesupremist/anit-feminist/soon to be mass murder types that its almost beyond repair. Seems you must have run into city types. Most of us rural folks pack most of the time anyway. At least they didn't send out the men with the black body armour and HK's like they routinly do in our major cities.

The same happens in southern US states with many RV's and minivans bearing California, Illinois, and New York plates. Must be something in the water.

GRH,
If you're going to regularly scare away Candians like that PLEASE BE EQUIPED WITH A VIDEO CAMERA. IMO, I think it is totally unfair that only you should have the fun and not share the visual experience with the rest of us.

Have you seen....
the ads in a lot of the shooting and other outdoors/hunting magazines, talking about how "easy" it is to hunt in Canada, for "only $50 CD", for a non-resident gun permit.
It's been a while since I did any hunting or fishing in Canada, but you can bet I'll never do any more hunting in Canada, as long as they have their knuckle-headed gun laws.

Reminds me of the time some years back when a nice couple from Ohio in a truck with a camper hitched on was broken down on the shoulder of the road blocking my driveway. I was coming back from hunting at the time. I went through the neighbors driveway and into the yard. Drove up to them, got out and asked if they needed a phone or anything. They acted so strange at first. Finally the man stammered that he had stopped because they smelled an overpowering odor of gasoline. I asked if he had looked under the hood and he said "No, it just happened" When I said well lets look he seemed so afraid, but opened the hood. I spotted it in a second. It was a rubber fuel hose attatching the steel fuel line to the carb (It was an older truck and this happened some years ago). I told him to give me a second I had some of the same hose and some screw type ring clamps in my shop. The woman was acting so strangely I tried to reasure her that it was a minor problem. I moved my truck, parked it in the usual spot by my shop, got the screwdriver, knife, fuel hose, and a crescent (just in case) and set to work. Took all of 5 mins to get it fixed. Tole him to crank it up and check it. It was fixed just fine. They finally started to warm up, and talk some. It then came to light that they had seen the rifle in the gun rack, and the knife on my belt, and camoflage clothing. They actually thought I was some kind of terrorist! Finally when I convinced them I was normal (OK OK as normal as a Cajun gets
), things were fine! It'sj ust a mindset to some people if you have a rifle in your truck you are a criminal............hell down here if you DON"T have a rifle something is wrong! I wonder what would have happened if I had not already taken off my gun belt and holster with the Ruger 45 Colt, before I got in the truck, and slid it under the seat?

Our gun laws
Look out boys we're a test bed for your next rounds of gun laws/confiscations. Bill C-68 (our new gun control laws)have completey stripped away Canadian gun owners rights. Quick run down, Police can conduct warrentless entries if they "suspect" unregistered firearms, right to remain silent is gone, permits required to possess, or purchase rifles/shotguns, seperate permit for handguns, permit to purchase ammo etc., ect. AND PLEASE DON'T COME TO CANADA TO HUNT/FISH/OR TOUR THE COUNTRY!!! Our Eastern Liberals won't listen to us Westerners, but maybe they'll listen with their pocket books.

Aaaaah-HA-HA-HA-ha-ha !! Funny !
I went to school in Canada for a year (don't ask), I was really excited because the house I was living in had a creek right by it that emptied into Lake Ontario. I figured it was as good a place as any to try out my new fly rig. Anyways, I figured I would scope out the shoreline and do some dry casts before I purchased flies and got serious about it. So I'm down at the creek which literally runs past my backyard in the middle of nowhere and I'm casting on the shore. Fish are jumping everywhere and they are HUGE chinook salmon. I'm pretty stoked. Here's the "only in Canada" part, all of a sudden this big, fugly lookin 20 somethin' ft boat with an obnoxious outboard motor comes screaming down the creek belching smoke everywhere. The person driving the boat gives me a dirty glare and stops making an abrupt 180, "HEY, this is a fish sanctuary !! You can't fish here !". To which I replied, "HEY, this is my backyard, and I'm not fishing @sshole !". He took off, squeezing his poopy little outboard down the stream, polluting the river and destroying his precious fishies habitat. Later I found out that yes, that stretch of the stream was protected, but since a refinery in another town dumped into the stream and Lake Ontario was so polluted, the fish were inedible . The fish were protected because the locals felt sport fishing was cruel and wanted to protect their little stream !!! Ironically I could fish about 2 miles up stream out of the Towns jurisdiction, just not in my own backyard. Only in Canada...

Quite a pattern emerging here....First disarmament then other rights disappear...Just like Australia debating whether their armed forces should be able to shoot at protesters and Britian getting rid of a jury trial, thanks for the education on Canada's slide into the iron hand...... |

We were camping up in Buffalo Wyoming couple of months ago. Me being the silly American was openly carrying my Gov't .45 in a Blade-Tech belt holster.
We ended up out at the wagonbox fight site (say that fast 6 times) where there was a carload of people from Sask Canada. Wifey poo went up to them and started chatting (She is from Sask) and they were chatting nicely till a woman spotted my pistol. They got all quiet and one older man asked the wife real quietly why I was carrying a gun. She told them that I was doing it cuz here in America we can do that THey chatted with the wife for a few more min and then quickly departed the area all the while looking at me like I was going to wig out and kill them for food

I'd like to apologize to the Canadian people on behalf of my fellow Americans.
It seems that about 30 years ago we dumped a large number of liberal, hippy draft dodgers into your country and they seem to have taken root.

Not only have they taken root, they've flourished. The entire Parliament is run by '60's, left-wing, socialist utopians. At least here in Alberta we are far better off, its like Texas, with slightly fewer guns and socialized health care.

Sounds like GRH ran into some West-end vancouver yuppie-scum.
Everybody north and east of Vancouver probably has more guns than you do....

I recently took another enjoyable vacation in the Canadian Rockies. I doubt that most regular people in western Canada are frightened by the sight of a gun. Plenty of the liberals in both the US and Canada sure are. It is sad that the PC crap has such deep roots in our neighbor to the north. I'm afraid we are looking at our own future. I hope not. My vacation was an extended camping trip. I usually take some type of firearm with me. This trip I ran into the $50CDN tempory permit fee. Luckily I found about it before leaving home. I certainly was not going to pay the damn fee, but since my plans were already set I just left the guns behind this time. Beautiful place to visit. Sorry the people have been further oppressed. I don't like camping without a firearm. I probably won't do it again. Best. Watch-Six

I thought Canadians had no rights, only "Her Majesty's Pleasure".
God save the Queen! Preferably in a cell, along with Blair, Chetien and Clinton. Jim
