Shooting in Lucerne, Switzerland

Two killed in Lucerne shooting

Two people were killed on Thursday evening and two
others injured in a shooting incident in the Swiss city
of Lucerne, cantonal police said.

A 20-year-old Swiss man, who has not been named, shot
and killed a woman who was sharing an apartment in
Lucerne with his former girlfriend, who was also injured as
she jumped down off the apartment balcony onto the road
below.

A 63-year-old female German tourist, who happened to be
passing the apartment block at the time of the incident, was
wounded in the shoulder by a bullet fired by the gunman as
he ran out of the building.
The attacker then turned the gun on himself before
collapsing dead in the street.

Initial findings suggest the man had hidden his weapon in a
guitar case before calling at the apartment.

Police said the incident bore the hallmarks of a crime of
passion, but declined to give further details.

While violent crime is rare in Switzerland, it was the second
multiple shooting in a month. Fifteen people died in Zug last
month after an armed man stormed into the regional
parliament building and opened fire.

Hmmm...not again.

This time it looks like he used his Army gun.

But crimes of passion also happen with knives, and the guy already
broke a few laws using the gun, and carrying it to the place of the
crime.

Looks like the Parliament will want to get the Army rifles back so we
can't commit any 'crime' with them.

My condolences to the people of Lucerne.

Crazy people do what cray people do, & criminals don't care about the law. Taking the arms from the 99.999% who behave won't cure the crazies or stop the criminals.

Makes you cringe everytime you hear that. A shame it happened, hope they don't manage to use it as too much of a disarmerment wedge.

I just hope the Swiss authorities remember that about 6000 people were eventually killed by a handful of men armed with nothing more than box cutters and small pocket knives on September 11.

In ZUG? That's nuts!!! A shooting in such a small town makes you wonder what provoked the pyscho to snap.
And another in Lucerne... we feel for you.
I love Switzerland. -ehem, and the Swiss women...

ouch.. very sad. Condolences to the family.

That said, this almost makes me wonder if the newsies got tired of hearing folks say "look at Switzerland -- assault rifles (real ones, even!) in every home, and lower violent crime than here" -- and decided to jump on every single case.

Call me paranoid, but I'm certain Switzerland must have had occasional shootings before.. it just wasn't news here on the other side of the Atlantic. Heck, why are we hearing about shootings in Switzerland and not in Rio? Geez, from the stories I've heard, it's a friggin' war zone down there. Why get regaled with every bloodbath story from overseas.. surely we got enough here.
