Sphinx AT-9MM Questions

Any Sphinx owners out there? How much should I pay for the compact?

By "compact" are you talking about the "P" model or the "H" model? I own a "P" model two-tone, the Sphinx is IMHO one of the few examples of a "clone" being better than the original in terms of quality, in this case far surpassing it's progenitor, the CZ-75 (a gun I like very much) in terms of fit, finish, machining, and overall quality. $650-$750 would be fair IMHO, Sphinx may make a comeback in 2002, hold onto your pants! If anyone knows a source of 13rd. pre-bans for this gun, would you please post or Email me? It accepts the same mags as the CZ-75 Compact. Thanks,
Sandster

ITM guns (the predecessors to Sphinx) don't really use CZ or Tangfoglio
mags, in spite of claims to the contrary. They fit too loosely.
Sphinx mags fit perfectly in the older ITMs,
hence I believe that Sphinx will not be able to use CZ mags.

MSRP

is listed on the Sphinx website for the AT380 only. I can't find any pricing on an AT9mm...

I beleive the AT380 was imported for a while ater the 9mm guns stopped shipping.

I believe this is why they're still priced.

A year ago, when they were still around they listed in the $900+ range.

Many dealers were dumping them for in the $600-700 range.

I have the Sphinx AT Police Special (all stainless) purchased a few months ago. It was NIB out of someones "safe" and I paid a hefty price for it. It had never been fired, original box, 2 original 15 round hi-caps in factory wrap with stainless baseplate, etc. etc. Absolutely new. The fit and finish is flat out stunning. This model is the compact but with the full size grip. It does use the CZ 15 round mags just fine (yes, I AM shooting this gun although I am not using the factory hi-caps).

I have 3 CZ-85s that I recently purchased but I must say that should the Sphinx be imported to the US in FY 2002 I will replace a few of my CZs with Sphinxs. I have found only 2 other Sphinx, both two tone, a 9mm and a .40 cal. Both of them were well used/worn so I passed on them. Both were priced at $790.

I have been corresponding with a Sphinx rep in Switzerland and he said they will be on display at the Shot Show and are lining up a new US distributer. I just can't wait.

You might want to go to the CZ forum. They have a section of CZ clones and there are a few posts concerning the Sphinx. Someone there could probably give you some insight concerning the mags.

On the Sphinx web site you can look at the products and it has the retail price listed. Also, if you go to the Purchase Online section it will give you a retail price listing.

Hope this helps. As you can see, I REALLY am impressed with the Sphinx. If you haven't seen a solid stainless (I believe they call it pallidin or something like that) you're in for a pleasant surprise. The milling/finish is like nothing I've seen before...really first rate!!

You can find hi cap compact mags, factory cz, in the back of gun list or go to cz forum and look up chechmate2...email him. He
has the mags listed for sale in gunlist. however they are the "holygrail" of hi caps...rarer than the cz 82/83 mags. He knows what they are worth. shoot well
