galco miami classic or ss2 rig for glock17?

Hey guys i need advice on which one of these i should buy for this gun? Does anyone here have any experiance wearing this gun in either of these rigs if so which one was more comfortable to wear?

I was thinking of going with the ss2 because of the wider straps but feel it might not be needed with a gun as light as a glock 17 Also would the miami classic be as stable i.e. not slide around move around due to it's thinner straps?

And my last question is i've heard people say that in hot weather climates like florida were i'am that in the hotter months that the wider harness of the ss2 would be less comfortable and will make you sweat under where the straps are is this true? however it's very cool out this time of year in the part of florida where i am so the wearing a cover garmet or even a zip up sweater or wind breaker is perfectly doable

But as i stated above i'am concerned with the hotter months because i want this to be my main mode of carry because i have a bad back and belt rigs/iwb rigs don't work any help is great thanks in advance guys.

In spite of the "Miami" in the name, I can't imagine wearing one of these rigs, under a jacket, in the heat and humidity of South Fla. The straps hinder the circulation of air under the shirt. This kind of rig is great for cold weather wear, but I bet the name "Minneapolis Classic" wouldn't have sold as many units

However, to answer your question, the Miami Classic is going to allow a little more "breathability" compared to the SSII, while the SSII rig will offer more comfort for a heavy firearm. Your Glock 17 isn't what I would call heavy.

The Miami rig also has a little less chance of the straps being visible around your collarbone if your jacket opens up, the SSII has a fairly high probability of the straps being visible with some jackets- though most people might think they're suspenders, I suppose.

Last time I saw the harness of an SSII the straps were suede. If this is still the case, the top-grain finish on the Miami strap will let clothes "slide" a little better than the suede of the SSII.

Finally, may I suggest you look into an Alessi shoulder rig ? Extremely high quality - much better holster fit and finish - for about the same price. Galco makes great "off the shelf" stuff but the Alessi is definitely a cut above especially since the prices are almost the same. Alessi shoulder rigs have a great break away trigger guard snap for lockable pistols- unfortunately not for the Glock.

I bought the SS II for a Smith & Wesson 4516-1 I used to have.

For comfort, the SS II is probably a wiser choice due to the fact that it will carry the weight better. Remember: you will not only be carrying the gun, but also 2 fully loaded clips.

However, the wider straps are not as concealable as those of the Miami Classic. Although made of the same leather as the MC, the straps are constructed a little differently (unless they have changed since I bought mine in the early - mid 90's). Instead of having (2) seperate straps as does the MC, my SS II actually has only (1) long strap. The top of the Galco "swivel clover" is attached to the middle of this strap; the loose ends attach to the lower corners & they are what swivel. The strap is widest at the center, then tapers down to each end.

After calling Customer Support at Galco, I ended up trimming the width of the strap in the front to have it conceal better.

Since then I have purchased a Jackass rig for my 1911 guns. This unit costs less than either the MC or SS II and has suede straps that appear to be between the MC & SSII in width. I have found it comfortable & concealable.

Hot weather wear? Well, just the thought of wearing even the loose fitting custom linen jackets & pants worn by Don Johnson as Sonny Crockett in Miami Vice during the Florida summer gets me hot. I don't know how much different about 1/2" of leather strap would make. For myself, on those warm days I usually end up carrying a smaller piece - like a .380 Mustang - in a pocket somewhere, or maybe a big shirt left untucked with an IWB.
