How do you store your primary handgun at night?
Hope this isn't too personal of a question. I'm curious how people store their primary defensive handgun at night.
I know some of the poll options are silly, but... I've been surprised before here! |

I refuse to answer based on your discrimination against revolvers.

Under bed. Can easily grab with either hand, depending on sleeping position.

It isn't where they're stored, it's how many.

I voted for "hidden in room". More specifically near my computer.
I don't have my gun ready for defense, but I sure love dry firing while reading TFL !!! |

I voted directly in reach under the pillow. Actually it is on the gun case i carry it in to the range and that is right next to the bed. Now that i think about it though I may place it on the shelf in my headboard - would be right behind my head. hmmm

I voted in the safe, loaded.
I keep a SG under the bed at night. Lock it up in the AM.

On nightstand... USP .45 in holster, cocked and locked. In the magazine pouch I keep a surefire E2e. Certainly not the best setup, but better than Ramen for the next six months or so.
(lol @ attached, holster on body. ... please someone vote for that)

Well...
...my "primary" CCW handgun (a 296Ti) almost never leaves my purse's carry compartment.
On the other hand, my primary house pistol (a Beretta 96D) almost never leaves my bed. |

Well, although it's not exactly IN my bed...(Jeez, Tam. Don't you ROLL over??)
..it's always well within reach, eye level. It's always very comforting to look to my left and see the Trijicon's of my Glock 27 looking back at me like two green eyes that never blink. For some reason, alone and at night, dark cockpit--weather deteriorating into a thunderboomer, trying to get to Bowman Field, looking down at those two green "eyes" in an "air-crew" holster has a calming effect on this old pilot. Not really much help in the dark at nine thousand feet---still a calming effect. Who KNOWS why???

I don't HAVE a primary handgun at night...
when I sleep, it is with a shorty 12 Ga. beside the bed... quick to deploy, and far more useful than a handgun for a home invasion type deal...

Here's my method exactly..........
Taurus Mod 605 .357 mag loaded with Georgia Arms .38 spcl 110 gr Gold Dot JHP+P's.......nightstand drawer pulled out and steel lock-box opened up for ready access. During the day, drawer closed, lock-box locked. Works for me.

My carry pistols go on the nightstand when I come back from the office. Hope I never have to retrieve them at night. All guns are always loaded, but no kids for me. YMMV.

At bedtime, all my guns (shotguns and revolvers) are in a gun safe in the bedroom.
Alarm systems, dog in the house, door locks & bars, and window locks are designed to provide time to wake up before wielding a weapon. I would not want to have a gun in hand prior to becoming fully awake... |

No one answered "attached: holster on body"...
I guess that means no mall ninjas on TFL right now.

I keep my 1911 locked in a desk drawer next to my bed, hammer down on an empty chamber, with 4 loaded 7 round mags nearby but not inserted. I talk in my sleep and occasionally sleep-walk, so I leave the keys sitting on the desk rather than in the lock. I figure if I am able to unlock the drawer (key is shaped differently than the rest) and load up, I'm not sleep walking.

Well
My main carry piece would be in reach from my side of the bed, and with others hidden around the house.
