Who mentioned "big bore" handguns, anyway? I've seen .22s, 9mm, .38 and stuff like that mentioned, nothing like a .44 magnum.
And the only thing
I am saying is that you still need training to properly use a shotgun. You must be sure of your target when there are other people in the house that might get hurt.
Besides, a handgun in any reasonable caliber for a beginner can be carried around the house at all times. What good is a shotgun in the bedroom when you're playing with you kids outside in the garden?
