Good point. They also made it rather hard to do, what with needing a two-thirds vote in both houses of Congress and ratification by three-fourths of the states... it's only been done 27 times in over 200 years, even though hundreds, maybe thousands, of amendments have been proposed. So it's a pretty stable document. But it isn't always clearly written.
