Both calibers use .308 diameter bullets.

What exactly are you talking about? If you mean using load data for the .308 that lists the same bullet that you pulled from the '06 then of course you can.

How did you plan to address the matter of the powder charge---specific powder and correct amount?

Don't even consider doing anything until you learn about handloading.

Components that go into ammo are carefully controlled in a laboratory environment with pressure carefully measured. That information is what goes into loading manuals.
