I think No unless things go really bad. You can never tell with war. Things happen that you can't project.

I registered for the draft in 1973 and fully expected to get sent to Viet Nam. I was put into the lottery system and got 86. If the war had continued as it had, I was sure to go. However, Nixon stopped the draft that same year. I lucked out timing wise. My Dad did the same in WWII. He was 29 when WWII started and was a Chemical Engineer. He worked on the chemical side of the Manhatten Project and was considered more valuable to the war effort here than overseas.

I would have gone if called, but at that time, the Vietnam war was incredibly unpopular. My older brother (12 years older) went. He said it really sucked there. Very hot, and bugs everywhere. He told me not to volunteer to go there even if I could because it was such a rat-hole.
