I'll throw in my two hundredths of a buck.

Bersa makes a Thunder 9 in full size and compact. The compact is still pretty large compared to some of the micro guns available.

The full size is 17+1 and the compact is 10+1.

The full size is the issued sidearm of the Argentine federal police and many other LEO in that little corner of the world.

The frame is alloy and unbelievably light, yet very durable. Quality is very good when you consider the price (should be around $400 NIB). Mine (full size) has had nary a bobble from shot one (it technically doesn't count for your needs since I got mine in .40, but it is the same gun) and is accurate. The fact that it is fully ambidexterous helps if you are a lefty.

A down side is magazine cost. About fourty bucks each. Ouchy on the wallet. The magazines are top quaity so the price is worth it.

Just another option for ya'.
