My sweetie wasn't real yappy... at all. She a long and lean shepherd, and was demonstrative, but not real verbal.

And absolutely magnificent - I also agree that a "used dog" should not have a stigma - the problem was almost invariably due to incompetent/unsuitable owners, so as long as they haven't screwed them up *too* badly, you can do a great thing by adopting a dog from either a shelter or a rescue organization and there will be two winners - the dog and you.
