A boresnake is a rope-like cleaning tool that can be packed in a very small space. It's similar to the early 1903 Springfield rifle cleaning rope, but much better.

Boresnakes are caliber sized braided ropes with a bronze bristle brush embedded in them. A brass weight on one end allows you to pass the rope down the bore and pull it through. Since they're sized for the caliber, the thick end of the rope can be treated with bore cleaner such that one or two passes usually cleans the bore quickly.

These are especially handy in the field where you may need to clean a barrel but can't carry a cleaning kit.
